Trump's stupid wall idea

Ok, here in Texas the border runs right down the middle of the Rio Grande. Is that where the Trump wall is going to go, in the middle of a river??? Does no one see a problem with that?

Walls work, period. They need to be garrisoned and backed-up by laws that truly punish the law breakers.

Every illegal who arrives here has the potential to steal $30,000 of benefits every year. If you or I committed these crimes, we would be looking at multiple felonies and jail time.

Punishment needs to fit the crime. 5 years in prison and permanent bar to legal entry, is a good start. Zero ability to get employment without a 100% verified government issued ID
. No ability to get housing, register/drive vehicles, attend school and get benefits, makes America not so attractive anymore.

Walls cost money. Walls save money and more importantly lives of Americans and our way of life. If we can pour billions into Iraq and the Stan, we can secure our borders.

The fact that some Americans benefit and scheme to prevent secure borders sickens me and rises to the level of treason.

The Rio Grande River is a non-issue. Simply build the wall further from the actual border. Simple
.

Walls don't have to be particularly high, massive, or expensive.

Just mined. Observed. And covered by fires. Once folks understand that they'll be killed doing the free-range thing, they tend to apply for visas and utilize legal ports of entry.

Cold War East German Border. Folks who "illegally" crossed such barriers successfully numbered about 50 per year... not millions.

It's a technique... ;)

As a former army engineer - one of our primary missions was denial.

We have the technology- we don't have the will.

I'm good with flooding the border with MLRS launched mines. Reckon it would be about 24 hrs before before word got out. Oh well.

A few dead cows - a few dead smugglers - and a few dead illegals.
I'm good.

24 hrs & theyd figure out the front door is open - the back door ain't.

**** a wall - give me anti-personnel mines.

You took the words right out of my mouth! With sanctions, Trump says we can make Mexico pay for it, so why not let it be on Mexican soil? We have been supporting Mexico and their people for way, way too long. It's time they got off their Burro's and started doing something positive for themselves, instead of leaching off us, and destroying our way of life.

It makes sense and it's long overdue. People reject it because they don't like Trump. It's not exactly his idea. 700 of the 2000 mile border already has some kind of barrier up. I'm not a fan of Trump or a hater of Mexico. I believe in protecting our nation and secure borders are an essential part of that. Tech and manpower still needs a physical barrier and vise versa.

It would also benefit Mexico greatly. Cartel violence is horrific in border towns. Stopping ground transport of narcotics and humans won't stop trafficking. It will shift it to sea and air, but that's a lot easier to combat. Cartels will leave the border towns if they are unable to conduct their business there.

Needs to run close to the river to minimize impact on property owners. Needs to be accompanied by a water project as well. This too would benefit Americans by providing a water source separated from the unchecked dumping and pollution coming from the south side of the river. It's not difficult and not complicated.

Opposing view.........

South Texas ranches are HUGE. Given the problem of trespass, drug traffic, vandalism, etc most of these property owners would be happy to be paid for 100yrds of river frontage for a boarder wall easement. It would actually be a land improvement as the brush is cleared and replanted in native grass that benefit cattle.

What good does it do to arrest these "immigrants"? If they ever do get deported, they are usually back across the border before the ink even dries on the deportation order. Now, if we could deport them to somewhere like Tierra del Fuego, or Antarctica, it might be worth the bother.
Short of that, the best solution is to make sure they don't get here in the first place.
A wall doesn't necessarily mean the Great Wall of China, something like a three tiered fence with the middle fence being energized would work wonders.
Tunnels? In oil country (which much of Texas is) they use vehicles that "pound" the ground, making small earth quakes that enable them to "see" oil bearing strata by using Richter scale readings. Going along the border with these machines would collapse the tunnels while they were being dug. Lose a few guys, and they will decide it's not worth it.
Along with those solutions, cut off the welfare spigot to illegal aliens, fine those who hire illegals $10,000.00 a day per person, no drivers license for illegals, no more "anchor" babies. Take away the reasons for them to come here, and they will decide to go somewhere else.
All those countries who denounce us for not wanting to take these people in can put their money where their mouth is...they can take them. Let's see how long that will last.
We have more than enough population here as it is, and the "politically correct" way that the country has been run the last few years has made it difficult to even take care of them (20 trillion dollars in debt? How freaking ridiculous). We can no longer afford to take in the "Huddled Masses", and the people of this country need to come to that realization while we still HAVE a country.

No, it's been promised much longer than W Bush. It was promised during Reagan, when they gave amnesty for illegal aliens way back in the 1980's. They made a deal way back then that if they gave all the illegals amnesty that they would control our border. Well they gave them their illegal amnesty then, did our borders get secured? It was a big fat lie then and it's a big fat lie now.

Along with the wall why not bring our military back from those countries that use the training we provide against us. Our soldiers will be home and protecting our country. Those countries have been at war with each other since the beginning of time and always will. There are a lot of perks for letting our own soldiers come back and watch our borders.

"The Romans did more complicated building and water projects 2,000 years ago."

Fellow once proposed building a wall of steel reinforced concrete -like the noise wall on our highways, but trenched deep. Source crushed stone, water and sand on site. Truck in steel rebar and cement. Too easy - especially for a builder-developer like Donald Trump.

While we are pouring, set vibration sensors in and near the concrete - mini seismographs of a sort. Still needs observation and cover by fire.

UAVs make a lot of sense, too, for finding, fixing, and flattening the OPFOR (which is what these refugees are - opposing forces.
