Chunky Better be careful about what he says. Trump can still drill him down the road.

Trump also said this..

"Trump made reference to his previous threats to declare a national emergency to secure the border, calling it a “very powerful weapon," and noted that if no deal was reached to fund border security and construction of a wall before Feb. 15, the next date the government's funding would run out, he would use his presidential powers to declare an emergency."

Yeah, ok...

This wasn't about "The Wall".
He could have funded the wall for a trillion dollars when the Repubs held both houses but he didn't.

This 5.7B was a power play.
He let Nancy take away the House for his speech and now this...

Chuck gets to spend all weekend on the Sunday shows making the claim that they stood up to Trump and he caved.

Call it strategy but the great unwashed will see this as Trump getting his ass handed to him.
Bad move on his part.

Trump needs to come up with a more effective plan before February 15. I suspect he will have to declare a national emergency in order to build the wall.

I still don't think Trump is going to run in 2020. He's done about all he can do to pull the country back from the brink of the abyss created by the Democrats.

The handwriting is on the wall. The swamp is too deep to be drained. Use what time is left to prep. In 2020 the socialists sweep to power. Health care goes first. Guns go next. The economy then collapses and things get very bad.

I work for a large multinational company. Before 2016 we were moving as much as possible out of the US. When Trump got elected we started hiring again in the US and started reversing course to move back into the US. Now all US hiring is on hold and we are again moving assets overseas. Corporate expects taxes to be reversed after the next presidential election and are moving accordingly. Plans are to move engineering to China within the next 5 years. I'll be retiring by then but expected to train my Chinese replacements starting next year.

The dem leaders said they would work on border security after the gov was opened. This does that.

The dem leaders said the SOTU address would not be in the house unless the gov was opened. This does that.

Trump set a 3 week deadline with some strong warnings that will still keep his base happy. This does that.

Dems double down and say there still won't be any money for a wall. I think Trump will play his card when this 3 weeks fizzles out. I guess we will see what happens. The swamp has been harder to drain than Trump originally thought, but he is a NYC real estate mogul and businessman. He knows how get things done.

The past 30+ day shutdown accomplished nothing except driving Trump's polling numbers down. He's in the exact same position now as he was on day 1...Dems saying open the govt and then we can talk about security (but not a wall) and him threatening a national emergency.....He should just cut to the chase and do the national emergency because I don't see what's gonna compel Dems to give any wall money at this point.

#15 ·
Are you kidding? His numbers have gone up since this started, especially with Hispanics (Americans).

As disappointed as I am that it seems trump has indeed caved, knowing the BS that is going to come from a smug blow hard and his Botoxed shaky speaker is almost as bad.
I’m low on hope but it sure would be nice for POTUS to pull a win out of this somehow in a YUgE way.
I believe he will and is will be YUGE! :)

I don't know much about politics except one wants your guns and the other wants you money. But I am willing to place a bet that Trump has something up his sleeve. He did not become a successful business man by not getting what he wanted out of the deal so I see this as probably some kind of strategy that will end up blowing up in the democrats face in the end.

I think Trump has finally begun to understand that politics are dirtier than business.
Eventually the hardcore base who refuses to see this will come around as well.

He lost on this.
Chuck N’ Nancy will be out all weekend pounding it home, Trump caved, he couldn’t take the pressure, the unions won, the workers can eat again and pay for their homes and their kids medicine.

Sorry, this is a loss and the stinky Dems come out smelling like roses.

Well, don't count Trump out yet.

The democrats will now have a chance to articulate why they are going to reject immigration reform, protection for DACA and a wall. My understanding is ammensty and citizenship for the DACA folks is off the table completely. Legal residency is the best they can expect.

After they are done, Trump will likely address the nation and call a "National Emergency" to protect the country, using the military and the Corp of Engineers to patrol and erect barriers, etc.

I imagine the court challenge will be short and I expect it to immediately go to the Supreme Court as this is about Constitutional Powers of the Executive when an imminent threat is present. Challenging the Commander and Chief's decisions is not going to be a 'walk over" for the courts as it sets a very dangerous precedent.

Wait and See

this was just another chess piece moving off the board. every move trump makes is calculated. pelosi and chuckie think they are winning and them BAM checkmate by trump. if you really think that trump will be beat by these 2 clowns, then you haven't been paying attention.
I hope to God you are correct. But we must remember, the presidency has limited powers.

However, from my vantage point (remember my aviation career takes me all over the place) the left has won. When I flew over the greater NYC area this afternoon, the only thing viewable, is a sea of liberalism that stretches to the horizon. I mean to say, it's visually overwhelming when you think about it.

When just 0.8% of the greater NYC area is involved in manufacturing of any sort, the left has won. They've convinced the folks there that a service industry is what makes the world go round. The worlds best foods simply show up, as if by magic, cooked by energy sourced elsewhere, and the dishes (also made elsewhere) washed in clean water taken from the most pristine of lands hundreds of miles away.

To think that Trump can somehow overcome entitlement "mob rule" may in fact just be silly.

NYC is a land of takers, and the only thing they are good at is taking from others.

I didn't find the bill he is going to or has signed today i just a quick google search, but the dems. won big time on from what I was hearing earlier today. The reps. lost just about everything they wanted in it, and the dems. kept everything they wanted. Border wall aside, this was a major win for the dems, and Trump just stabbed the republicans who voted him into office in the back.

I thought he'd use the air traffic control and tsa call outs as the catalyst for the national emergency. That could make it a little less of a court battle in my view because travel has been compromised so to say. I think there may be some 3D chess going on...but not sure. It seems he can always battle his way out of any corner that the media/Democrats seem to think they have him backed into.

I am disappointed that he backed down, but I'd bet a dollar that he has an ace in the hole.

Here’s the deal, I know it’s been discussed in other threads, with Trumps tendency to be flakey on guns I have a bad feeling about “common sense” gun control in exchange for his future 3D chess “win” on his wall.

Something about his uneducated and based on emotion ban of bumpstocks and support for red flag laws just keeps rubbing me the wrong way.

4D chess

Many, many different moves are possible. Typical American negotiating is very short in the number of moves before frustration sets in. Patience and being willing to make the other side lose vs you winning could be the play or part of the play that Trump is making. If the Democrats cause their own loss we win without having to beat them. Trump is setting them up and setting the stage for them to fail or lose or be beaten in many different ways. The exact way they fail, lose or get beaten has yet to play out but the traps are set.

I wish people would read or listen to my words on the Border Wall. This was in no way a concession. It was taking care of millions of people who were getting badly hurt by the Shutdown with the understanding that in 21 days, if no deal is done, it’s off to the races!

When your own party is against you .....

Pretend it's now November 2016 and you know what you know now. Who do you vote for? The witch? You stay home and get the witch? You vote turd party and get the witch?

Lose a battle and lynch the only general that is fighting on your side?

Pathetic.

Good to see that people still have hope.

What I see is a near continual loss of liberty on a state level basis and a leftist generated and facilitated non military invasion of our sovereign lands.

Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.

Clearly they are pouring over the border, settling here and not leaving. That is an invasion, and it cannot be called anything else. Definition of invasion: entrance as if to take possession or overrun
