My state (Minnesota) recently shut down. So if the feds shut down too, I guess we can conclude that the real anarchists are in office. I live in both a failed state, and a failed nation. I guess this is the result of a century of non-stop warfare and occupation, and off-shoring anything with a pulse.

Or we could pay our bills with the money coming in to the treasury and eliminate many other programs.

Progressive politics? Last I checked, DC is filled with millionaires who bail their banker friends out, and we have a military budget larger than all other nations combined. The rich have gotten richer, the middle-class squeezed, and the government starved.

With "progressive" politics like this, who needs fascism?

I'm a little unclear whether we have just a difference of terminology, or you genuinely believe we have idealistic granola munching bearded philosophers in charge, with utopian ideals to move the nation forward. I really don't see any evidence of that.

clearly there has become a ruling class mindset
progressiveism gives rise to socialism which in turn gives rise to fascism, all are active in the party politic, to be blunt we are all ready in default, no possible way to pay back the debt the government has mis-handled.
raising the debt limit is merely an exercise in political and fiscal self delusion.

the U.S. debt in real time, hit the link everytime you see a democrat talking about how they cant cut government spending or the fantasy that the worst is over and the nation has been saved.
