I don't normally like to rant about personal issues, but since important issues pertaining to my survival are at stake, I wanted to see if I could get some opinions, option, or maybe some "glad it ain't me's"

My area is becoming a demilitarized zone...period. In the hollow I live in, there are around 40 people, and I counted a KNOWN 15 drug dealers, 2 thieves, a professional con artist, and one LEO who is RELATED to some of the drug dealers, and protects them. It just keeps getting worse and worse as time goes on. The local sheriff's department no longer goes out on calls unless it's a bloody murder, and there are only a handfull of deputies to GO on calls...2-3 per shift for the whole county.

Kentucky has passed a law preventing the arrest of persons committing non-violent misdemeanors including drugs and theft. Pain clinics are springing up like daffodils in spring, and thus the drug problem and thefts are skyrocketing. I and a couple neighbors have all had stuff stolen, and the police won't even come to file reports. Oh, and did I mention that the local LEO's have somehow 'decided' that open carry is illegal in Kentucky?

I've secured my residence as far as it can be secured. Burglar bars, barbed wire, thick doors, the works...but I'm afraid it isn't enough. If this place keeps getting worse, It's going to become Nicaragua here. And I can just imagine what it will be like post SHTF

My fiancee's family has a house and land in Wyoming she can have. Even though it's less land than I have now, and in a small town, do you guys think it's worth it? Should I bug out out of my current location and hole up somewhere more secure, or stay try to ride it out?

I don't understand how one can force you stop open carrying if it was within your legal precedents? If they charge you all you have to do is take it to the most basic form of court, if even that, and you will be able to show the blatant disregard for your rights.

But the corrupt enforcement officers I see as the worst thing, people sworn to protect YOUR rights. Although it seems they were never made for that since the start, being that apparently from a legal standing the police are not required to protect the citizens.

I didn't expect to get so many replies so quickly. And thanks for the advice. I've been torn between GOOD and trying to keep my head down and staying. This place sucks. Not just from the POV of a survivalist, but just because it's a terrible place to raise a family. I don't have pups yet, but when I do, I don't want them exposed to all the drugs and crime around here. I have to sleep with a loaded shotgun beside the bed, and investigate any strange sounds outside at night. I'm apprehensive about leaving my house because I'm afraid I'll come back and find my stuff gone. What kind of place is that for an honest man to raise a family?

And about the open carry issue, this place has so many corrupt officials, you couldn't find an honest lawyer to take you in front of an honest judge. It's all about who knows who, and how much money you have to pay them off. It's cheezed me off in the past, but at least it wasn't affecting me personally. To be honest, I'm afraid that if I caught someone breaking into my house at night and shot them, I'd be looking forward to a loooooong stay in the concrete penthouse as the law works here.

I used to wonder, as most of you do, what it would be like to live in a world where people take what they want, and the law can't help you. Now I know. I've read about what New Orleans was like after Katrina...God help me, I see parallels...

I would leave. How is your relaitionship with your fiancee and her family? Do you have a job opportunity waiting in Wyoming?

I wish you all the best and from the sound of things leaving would be a good idea. Good luck and stay strong.

I'm glad to see so many like minded people already live in Wyoming. I know virtually nothing about the state.

My fiancee's family likes me, and the house is one that they want to keep in their family, but because of careers and other obligations, they cannot move to Wyoming to take it over. All we'd have to do is move in and take over whatever bills we would have. No mortgage, no leins, etc. It has a full-sized basement she had already promised me for my...hobby.

I don't have any job offers there, but then again, I make all the money we need here doing odd jobs and flea marketing. It keeps me off the radar :D: . We don't have TV or telephone. I don't see a point in either, and it saves so much money not having it. I don't believe in central heat and air either.

I hear getting a hunting/fishing license is somewhat complicated there, and seeing as I like keeping the fridge full of deer, squirrel, turkey, rabbit and fish, I'd like to know more about that. And any and all laws about firearms would be beneficial. I don't like entering into unknown territory without proper intel. ^_^
