Before a lot of people say I can't read on!!

Check this out.. ATF Letter

For the people who think Links are evil!! Here is a Copy of the letter..
DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY
BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND FIREARMS
WASHINGTON, DC 20226

OCT 19 2000

903050:GKD
3311/O-697

Dear Mr. Bardwell:

This refers to your letter of June 29, 2000, asking if the
externally threaded front sight base of Romanian manufactured AK-74
rifles would be considered to be a "threaded barrel designed to
accommodate a flash suppressor." You state in your letter that the
threading on the Romanian front sight base is unlike that of AK-74
rifles manufactured in other countries. You further state that, to
the best of your knowledge, the Romanian producers did not
manufacture a flash suppressor for their AK-74 rifles.

If there are no flash suppressors manufactured having a threading
compatible with the Romanian AK-74 muzzle threading, then it
follows that the described rifle would not have a "threaded barrel
designed to accommodate a flash suppressor." However, should a
flash suppressor become available in the future that has a
threading compatible with the Romanian front sight base threading,
then the rifle would be considered to have a threaded barrel
designed to accommodate a flash suppressor.

We trust that the foregoing has been responsive to your inquiry.
If we can be of any further assistance, please contact us.

Sincerely yours,

[signed]
Curtis H.A. Bartlett
Acting Chief, Firearms Technology Branch

I have look around online and have not found a "flash suppressor"
that was made for the 22mm thread to date. So I would assume that
it is legal here in New York. I'm going to look into it more before
I jump.

What say you the community. Is this an Option for us New Yorkers??

I would probably go the extra step and have a copy of the letter, and probably get a new letter from the ATF.
I'm going to email the local ATF soon. I'm just hoping its a go for us here in New York..

P.S.

If it is a Go! Than this would be New York Legal too!!

It to has an Odd thread. I'm thinking of getting One..

The Phantom flash supressor from DPH Arms is a solid choice for your state. You are correct, it is an odd thread meant to accommodate the metal sleeve. I'd say your in business. BUT be aware DPH will soon be adding several more alternatives to their line up of adaptors, some of which might contracted out to cheaper manufacturers overseas..... Anyway Good Luck with your WASR.

Before I jumped on something like that I'd get it in writing that it is okay from the local level on up to federal. Since some state firarms laws can be stricter or have differing requirements than federal law...it's always better to cover the bases than risk being sorry later...

We are not allowed to have "flash suppressors" though, unless they are BATFE registered as something other than.
If thats the case than the phantom he has pictured would be illegal. DPH was talking about a brake that fits the thread sleeve though, Not sure if its out yet. Zazzle, you should call them, and ask if they ship to your state. If they don't, it might be a good indication of its legality....:thumb:

There out and they well ship it to my state, I've already asked them.. And it is listed as a "Flash Hider". I'm looking into it with the Local ATF before I proceed with anything..
