Hi everyone,
I am having a little trouble deciding on the type of rifle & shotgun to go for and would like to have your opinions on the choices that I have.

Both myself & my wife are wanting to start hunting and we are getting ready to purchase what we need. (Mainly deer, turkey, dove & quayle hunting).
Here is what we have looked at so far.
My wife likes the 20 ga. shot gun and either a .243 or .270 rifle.

I want a 12 ga shotgun but am undecided on the rifle. so far my likes are the 30-30, .270, 7mm & 30-06. I am kinda leaning towards the 30-30 but some of my friends tell me they are not good for distance shots.

What kind of terrain are you hunting in? For large game like deer, elk, hogs etc, may I recommend a 30-06. It is a good all around calibur with good range, accuracy and stopping power. Be sure to get a rifle with iron sights and a place to mount a scope.

For bird hunting, either the 12 or the 20 should do. I personally use a 12.

The .270 is a good deer calibre too.
