Anyone know a good texting app for use on Android phones that uses wifi instead of over cell. The reason is a lot of schools block text and calls over WiFi and cell signal blocked by thick walls of school and spend some time lot of time there with sports events.
Mighty text works on tablet but not on a phone that already had text over cell

I like WhatsApp.

It's free, can work over wifi, and it's encrypted. It's so encrypted that ISIS uses it. I also sometimes use it to chat with people overseas, too, for work. It works on phones, tablets and computers. It's been around awhile so it's established.

You can also make phone calls with it, although I haven't tried it.

Skype works too, but it's owned by Microsoft and they're probably spying on us with it. I have to use Skype with a guy I work with in Australia because he prefers it. But it works well.

facebook chat, kik messenger, whatsapp.. Heck, even instagram has direct messages these days. Just search for instant messaging in your phone app store. I quit counting the possible apps after I got to 20...

If all else fails, use VPN to punch thru the wifi calling/sms block school has in their firewall.

Huh? If they block WiFi text and calls, how is WiFi texting going to help?

We have a system of filters in our WiFi, the texting and whatever all works fine via WiFi, but our GroupMe message system for the FB team gets filtered, as does any Facebook stuff, unless I shut off WiFi and use cel.

Do you just mean a WiFi messaging app that they don’t know to block or filter?

I would advise you to use WhatsApp only because WhatsApp is a very good and wonderful app for texting and calling and WhatsApp is used the most in the world and you can also use WhatsApp on computer With the help of web.whatsApp site
