We have been preping for a year now, but began our long term food grade bucket storage program nine months ago . We researched several methods and decided to try one of our own . We pre-packed the bucket with the items and then put those items into our freezer for seventy two hours to make sure no infestation existed . Then we removed the items and dried them and packed them into heavy duty, zip top freezer bags . we inventoried the items . We placed three bay leaves into the bottom of the bucket along with a food grade oxygen asorber. Packed the bucket until half full and put in another oxygen absorber. Filled the bucket put in two more oxygen asbobers with two more bay leaves and then sealed the bucket .We then opened the bucket at three months and checked - no infestation. Again at six months - no infestation . And again today at nine months- no infestation . While the use of mylar bags are reccomended we find that this method works well enough without the mylar bag . we have continously packed buckets as we could afford to do so and will report our results .
