Got a really sweet anniversary present this year - hubby presented me with a Puma Model 92 Lever Action Rifle in .357 Mag!:D: :thumb:

Got it yesterday (even though anniversary was in July - with a present like this, it was worth the wait!).

Took it to the range last night - worked like an absolute dream and was super accurate right out of the box. My first lever action and I adore it!

My ten year old daughter then wanted to try it out - - - - she loved it too, (she shot almost as many rounds through it last night as I did!) - then decided she wanted mine!

So hubby is now negotiating with her so that she can get one of her own. :thumb:

Here's a link - mine is the M-1892 version at the top of the page - I have the 16" barrel length and the large loop on the lever:

What a great present!

Will the Puma also shoot .38 specials?
Yes, as a matter of fact it will - .38 is mostly what I shot last night - although they will sometimes jam because they are shorter. Jams with .357 are unknown on this rifle. We also tested 4 different kinds of .357 last night as well and they all performed flawlessly.

This is an exciting rifle to shoot and one that I think will work very well with my 3 girls as they graduate up from a .22 -

As a matter of fact, all 3 girls are trying to convince my hubby to get them one! Yikes! :thumb:

Well...once they each have one and they start dating they can have their 1st date at the range. Just so the beau gets the idea that Momma and Poppa aren't the ones they have to worry about! Toss in some hand to hand training and they'll be all set.:D: Great looking rifle BTW, you're a lucky women.:thumb:

I have the same gun and love mine as well. I have the best luck shooting simi jacketed 38's vs full jackets as far as which feeds the best. I have yet to find a 357 round it dosen't like.

Here is a site that has some great info on how to disasemble a puma 92 as well as some tips on how to tune one up. This is where I learned how to lighten the spring on the magazene loading gate, a trick my thumb will forever be thankful for.

Thanks for that tip on the ammo and the link, BlueRider - I was telling hubby that the loading gate was a bit rough on my thumb and that I'd have to work on a technique for it so I could show the girls.

My girls are 10, 7 and almost 4 - this is the first year our 10 year old has done much shooting; she's been doing archery weekly since February, which I think really translated well at the range - she had a great stance and understood sight picture right away, which can be hard to get them to understand sometimes. Her first trip to the range with her .22 rifle was a couple of weeks ago and she was scary accurate.

7 year old is chomping at the bit to get on the range, but ours has a rule you have to be 10; so we're going to get her started in our pasture first.

4 year old is still a bit young, but loves to watch mom and sisters - our range has a small restaurant built next to the range with big (bullet proof glass!) windows so that you can eat and watch the shooting - so the girls get to come, have a grilled cheese and watch the lanes. Good family night activity - we go on ladies night and shoot for free with the purchase of a box of ammo.

It's hard not to get excited about a .357/.38spl lever gun the first time you pull the trigger; they are swweeet shooting guns.

My 1894C Marlin is by far my whole family's (wife, 17 year old son, 15 year old daughter and 12 year old son) favorite gun to shoot, over a 10/22, SKS or whatever ( they all want to steal the 1894C from me, and literally fight over who gets to shoot it next ). Put some LeveRevolution shells in it and you have a potent hunting weapon as well.

I looked at the price of your Puma on the link you provided and had to wipe the sweat off of my brow $875 to $1000. Then I checked GunBroker, found a used one for the $500 range and the rest for about $775 is that about right?

Yes, the prices for everything seem to be up there - that's why hubby had such a heart attack when my 10 year old decided she wanted one (after only shooting her .22 bolt action a couple of times, she tried my .357 lever and thought it was WAYYY cool) - then my 7 year old said, "hey what about me" and then the almost 4 year old, not to be left out decided she would have one too!

Mine, with the 16" barrel, is a perfect fit for all of us - I'm only 5'2" - and even if my daughters end up a bit taller, this size should be good for them for a lifetime. So, they are chipping in some of their savings and we're trying to see what we can work out for them!

Hubby wants each of them to have a rifle and handgun when they leave home - possibly a shotgun too if we can manage it - so we'll see how it goes!

Patrick - you know, I had to go look to see and lo and behold it does. So I got out the little booklet that came with it. Mine is on F - don't see a need to change it. :) Strange little safety latch - would have taken me a while to pay attention to it I imagine!

I just sold one of those to a guy about a month ago. It was a super fun gun but I just didn't have a spot for it in my arsenal. They are a little small for me and what I generally do with rifles. They are amazing for smaller stature people though. The Rossi/Puma 92 is a very reliable gun. It will last you the rest of your life. Grats on the new rifle :D

Thanks for the congrats - I'm really enjoying it. Since I'm just 5'2" - it's the perfect size for me and probably for all my girls.

I have had the same rifle in .45LC for a few years now it is a companion to my repro Single action army revolver in .45LC.

My only regret is I have one with the large loop lever. I like to shoot and the Loop lever is not as efficient to handle. I need something in between (which they do not make).

It is the sweetest lever gun i have ever had.:thumb:
