I just found one today in stainless and bought it for $12. I have seen them in aluminum before, but I don't like aluminum. I thought that was a fair price. I tried it out with 70% rubbing alcohol. Once I got it started, it took about 4 minutes to boil water. Maybe about a cup.

I'm no expert, but I happen to have a bottle of the stuff handy.

As I recall, rubbing alcohol has like 30% water in it. It doesn't burn nearly as clean or as well as denatured alcohol.

Denatured alcohol has alcohol, methanol, methyl isobutyl ketone, ethyl acetate, and just a smidge of water (I think about 4%). It burns cleaner and hotter.

I use a pepsi can stove which is a less efficient homemade version of the swedish camp stove and in average temps I boil two cups in about 4-5 minutes. Variables are wind and the temp of the water to start with.

You'll do better with the denatured alcohol.

I have a few of these stoves in aluminum. They have become my favorite, and carry one with me at all times on a motorcycle. I burn HEET in the yellow bottle, which is methyl alcohol, basically wood alcohol with poisonous additives to keep folks from drinking it. Tractor Supply sells a house brand that burns just as well and is a little less expensive.
Do you know if there are any more of the stainless steel versions available?

I think mines brass. Its a Tangia. All Ive used is denatured but Ill check on the generic heet at T.S to see if its cheaper. You can get a plastic fuel bottle from backpacker stores with a double seal to keep it in. Out of wind they work good.

Every one of the Swedish stove's I've seen have been the brass Trangia stoves. I've never seen one of the aluminum or S.S. ones that have been mentioned here.

The actual stove burner IS brass on all models. The pot / pan set is what comes in aluminum or stainless steel. My interest in the stainless steel is for durability. The aluminum tends to not withstand bumps and wacks well, and will leak at the rivets.

After reading several positive reviews I bought the Swedish stove from an online military surplus store. It was a bit banged up (stainless steel) but I liked the compact nature of the system. Rubbing alcohol didn't work in the small brass stove so the next day I went to Lowes paint section and bought a gallon of denatured alcohol. Now the stove works great and boils water quite easily. I will add that while the stainless steel is durable it does add a bit more weight than other systems.

I will pick up some denatured alcohol. I tried some 91% alcohol. Filthy stuff. No way it was 91%.

There was another pot (top and bottom), but they didn't fit together very good. He might have some more in the back. I can check. There was one on fleabay with 6 bids at $30. There were a bunch of aluminum ones. I know they're lighter, but I hate aluminum. It's harder to clean and they oxidize.

The stove is brass, but the pots are stainless. It came with the little bottle that fits inside for the alcohol.

Every one of the Swedish stove's I've seen have been the brass Trangia stoves. I've never seen one of the aluminum or S.S. ones that have been mentioned here.

I'm talking about the pots that you cook in. Stove part is brass.

I would check any local surplus stores first. Spend your money local first. If they don't have them, look online. Shipping will be at least $5-10.

I have a Trangia stove and it works quite well. It's a little slower than my JetBoil, but it's fast enough and the fuel is cheaper. I tried it out in our little snow storm this weekend. It worked well in the snow and wind. If you're new to stoves and you're thinking about using HEET as a fuel, make sure you use the HEET in the YELLOW bottle.
