No wonder that they died. They didn't get any medical care. If these spiders "swarmed" it is a natural occurance and it they "attacked" it's because they saw them as a threat. Would be interesting to follow up on what species they are.

the ones with the worst injuries were the ones who went to a witch doctor first and had the bites lanced., ha ha ha

you cant make this stuff up :thumb:

btw, i'm a little suspicious of the story so far, and will wait to see if any details unfold. Mainly because they supposedly cannot identify the spider species.
Sounds like b.s.

Oh hell, when I was in Korea swarms of spiders were something you just lived with in rice country! All that water in the paddies bred mosquitos that fly off with dogs so it's only logical that spiders (big critters too)would be chowing down on skeeters and occasionaly a toe hanging out of the skeeter netting. No fatalites that I know of though!

Actually the difference is signifigant. Venomous basically means it can be used as an offensive weapon. In the case of snakes and spiders by spitting or injecting a toxin into the prey.
Poisonous means you would have to ingest the creature. And that act will poison you. Ever heard of venomous plants?
Another example is is cobra venom. Injected into the blood stream it is lethal, yet you can do shots of it without dying,as long as you dont have a stomach ulcer.
Another example is the poison dart frog. It cannot envenomate its prey but if you ingest the secretions it's game over. Because it's poisonous

I hate spiders, theyre one of my least favorite bugs. I dont kill them unless theyre on me as I know they take care of a lot of other pesky insects but have to be happy here in Va, we dont have very big spiders. Im getting the creepy crawlys.

I guess that depends on where "here" is.

If you're talking the USA, absolutely because, as Ramona alluded, all the pesticides and other crazy chemicals Americans use every day are causing an imbalance in nature.

Not too long ago, Animal Planet's program "Infested" did a story about a family home that became infested with spiders because all the bug bombing and spraying they did killed off the spiders' natural predators.

I would avoid celebrating that particular Hindu festival again....lol

Kinda creepy overall....

This is one of the advantages of a cold climate where you have long tough winters..... one of the few but an advantage none the less... I will take a long hard winter over swarms of aggressive poisonous spiders any day of the week.

It will be interesting to know what type of spider this turns out to be... The start of a new Arachnophobia movie....

What I am having issue with is th DDT. Works great on Mesiquios not so much on spiders. And it is not as carcenogenic as we were led to believe. Used to play hide and
seek when I was a kid in Fairbanks in the clouds of it that they sprayed every evening.

again, I'm still in serious doubt about the story.
Havent heard anything about it outside of this forum.
probably a lot of b.s., supported by a little shred of fact :thumb:

you know, like most news stories
