Ohoy folks! Just seen moast of the series and I am impressed! The swamp of Louisiana is truly beautifull as it is dangerous! The people from the second series of The Colony could sure learn a thing and two of theese gator hunters!

I DO ADMIT that I struggle a bit with their accent, specially Troy`s. Is this some special accent / Cajun? :D: Anyway, after 2 beers I start getting the hang of it! :thumb:

" Swamp People is a documentary television series on the History Channel that follows Cajuns living in the Atchafalaya River Basin swamp in Louisiana, USA who hunt American Alligators. The series premiered August 22, 2010 and set a ratings record for History."

Troy seems like a likable guy, he cracks me up.....he's certainly has a good nature about him....

You can tell he loves what he does, his excitement never changes when they hook one....

I can understand him just fine, and I'm North Eastern Yankee...love to have some of them crawfish inah chowdah....

The History Channel is running a marathon of "Swamp People" today showing the whole season.

A few observations :
1) they use a 22 or 22 magnum. They only shot the gator in a small spot on the top of the head for the killshot. I think that kill spot could be reached through an open mouth too?? I see them taking crazy risks to make that killshot.

2) no one carries a radio. Boats get separated or something goes wrong, it seems to me a handheld CB or 2 way radio would sure help them out alot.

I was thinking along the same lines,
1: T Mike broke his pull cord and daddy had to go find him :
2: Junior went speeding off and Randy got left behind......... Junior being dad, it was all Randy's fault

The time his boy forgot the bait was priceless. Man's got a lot of patience for his son.

Really though, bait gun rounds line hook gas-water-crackers-off. And he forgets the chicken in the truck, lol.

Worst part for me would be hauling out those big gators from the water. Boat tipping over would worry me if there wasn't a 450 pound alligator just there a minute ago. Long way back to town.

That was way less than I thought! Disturbing many females that has been victims! I would have thought it was more male!

Latest one was quite bad:

"A man fleeing police by jumping into a retention pond adjacent to the Miccosukee Resort and Convention Center was killed by a 9-foot 3-inch (2.8 m) alligator."

I find this show to be amazing. The lifestyle of the main cast is something I've never seen before.

I basically FORCED my wife to watch this show with me. When she asked why, I tried to explain that the people on the show are the "real deal." But so far, all she sees is the hunting of gators. But I see the one shot kill without a scope from a rocking boat. I see the old pickups that will probably run for decades. I see how the people have adapted to the food that is available in the surrounding wildlife. I see the work ethic. I notice the lack of fancy tech stuff. And most importantly, I see the self sufficiency of the people on the show.

Great stuff for a long islander like me.
