Hello folks,

It's sunday morning and church is out here so I thought I'd post something y'all might like. It's a documentary of Louis Theroux visiting survivalists in Idaho and Montana.

The documentary was made in the first half of the nineties, back in the days when broadcasting time still had to be filled, instead of battled to use every second as efficiently as possible. In the days when cameras still worked with tapes that could run out after a few hours of recording.

However, I could appreciate this documentary because it is unbiased and tackles a lot of prejudice about survivalists, for example that they are all racists.

I recently read an interview of a Belgian interviewer with Louis Theroux, about all the fruitcakes he met during the making of his show "Louis' weird weekends". He met neo nazis, black supremacists, gangsta rappers, porn actors.

However, he specifically mentioned patriotic survivalists as a group of people he understood. These people fly the American Gadsden flag that says: “Don’t tread on me”. Leave me and my family alone, and I’ll leave you alone.

He asked the interviewer, why would you have to submit to Belgian law, just because you were born there? You never signed a contract saying that you would follow the law of that country. He said he appreciated the purity of the logic these people have. If it is your land, why would you have to pay taxes to anybody else then yourself?

He said he liked the survivalists as people, but also how they reject the idea that you are just the same as the next man and have to conform to the laws others impose on you.

I read this interview and I was curious about the documentary, and I found out it was on youtube. Here it is, enjoy ;-)

Did you know that BUMP is an acronym for Bring Up My Post?

Now I'm bumping anyway, I just want to say, I love that hippy survivalist in the 4th video :D: Awesome guy that is.

Thanks for finding that wolfe. A lot of the time he really annoys me, but that episode wasn't too bad.
He wasn't too judgemental of them and it didn't come that they were crazy (which happens in a lot of his documentaries)

Nice find.

Aside from the Holocaust denying store owner (although he sure could skate ;)), and the Aryan Nations nutjobs - I liked all of those guys.

Especially the mountain man who serenaded him awake when he was hung over :thumb:

I think I'd fit in just fine with most of those fellas :)

Seem like really decent people. Except for the Aryan Nation guys, they were creepy. And the Holocaust denier, although I think he was just misinformed.
