It always gripes me when I see some new shooter get hurt because the person taking them shooting didn't teach them how. It's especially common with women and small framed men to bend way backwards to balance the weight of the gun. That's the first tip off that they received no instruction on grip, or stance or anything else.

 

Agreed. It's almost always some inadequate todger that needs to re-affirm his 'manliness' by giving some slip of a girl a hand cannon with no proper instruction with the specific intent to watch her fail 'hilariously' for him and his mates' amusement.

 

Some people are too stupid to own guns pure and simple. Just like some people shouldn't be driving cars.

 

Stupidity can usually be cured through education though.

 

About a year ago a friend of mine handed my wife a Super Redhawk 44 and told her to go ahead and shoot it. She'd been shooting the 9's prior to that, well this was the first revolver she'd ever shot. I was away reloading magazines and I didn't notice, and he didn't notice until she was about to drop the hammer, but she's wrapped her support hand around the cylinder. It wasn't pretty...she controlled it pretty good, but I left all kinds of little powder burns on her hand.

As a former marksmanship instructor, it burns me to see these people get hurt because the moron that handed them the gun didn't teach them the basics before letting them shoot...

It isn't stupidity, it is pure ignorance on the shooters part.

Former marksmanship instructor or not, would you hand the keys to your car to one of your kids if you never taught them how to drive (assuming you have kids) or they never had proper instruction on how to drive??? I don't think you would and if you did you'd both be idiots. You for letting them do it and them for knowing they don't know how yet do it anyway.

I look at it like this, those people that pick up a firearm and know sqat about them fall into the same catagory as those idiots that give them false instruction. They fall in the same catagory as those who try to walk a tight rope yet never have or those who try and ride a motorcycle yet never have or try to fly an airplane yet never have or ..................... Yes those whose don't give proper instruction or none at all are idiots, just the same as those who do crap without instruction, IDIOTS. I feel nothing for them.

I think they are casually viewed by the non shooting public are merely another gun owner. In that light a few idiots cast a bad light on all gun owners.

I think ignorance and inexperience are fairly easy to fix. I know that I, as many of you have stressed the suggestion to get training everytime a "I'm new to guns what should I get thread" crops up...

 

I would be more than happy to take the guy who had the kid shoot the safari rifle he could barely hold up out for a walk and punch him in the throat.

What a tool. The rest is the usual whitetrash give a girl a cannon stuff, you tube has done wonders in giving the idiot gun banners more reasons to hate the 'gun culture'.

She was the victim of a violent crime and now she's armed. You called her a friend; regardless of political leanings, if given the opportunity you should take it upon yourself to educate and teach her before she accidentally shoots herself.

And for the record...I'd like to club some of these people who intentionally put novices in bad situations with firearms they know nothing about.

Come on people shooting a gun is not that hard. These videos jsut make gun owners look like idiots. All of these clips were caused by lack of training and people being stupid. Sure I got the scope on my 30-06 to give me a cresent moon above my eye once but these people are just idiots. That is probably why you should not have idiots teach future idiots how to shoot a gun.

Also the kid you shot himself with the air soft gun should never be given a real gun in his lifetime.

Me and a female friend of mine were out shooting a few weeks ago at the range, she was shooting her .380 she carries as a CCW, and wanted to shoot my 1911, so we swapped booths, and the range guy came over and started giving her a talk about how 45acp is a big cartrige for a girl. She batted her eyes all innocent-like and said oh then tell me how I do... slapped the magazine in racked the slide and drilled the target with all 7 rounds no problem. Turned back around and the range guy was gone... oh yeah, moral of the story? Shooting with women who know how to shoot and are smartasses... priceless...

The DEA guy, the female cop that came inches from plugging that guy, the first one where the guy trips and almost blows his ****ing head off...

Then all those poor women and kids whose boyfriends and parents are far stupider than them... Those guys are complete *******s for letting that stuff happen. I feel really bad for the chick that had the unintentional double-tap; she could have died...

As for the idiots that try aiming down the sights with pistol grip shotguns, they kinda get what they deserve. I was cracking up at the guy with the vest on; trying to look all tacticool and he bucks himself in the teeth.

I had a friend who owned a ranch out in the boonies, he told me this story; my friend would let folks come out and shoot from time to time. Well there was this one guy, white kid that thinks he's a gangster- you know the type- he's shooting my buddy's pistol grip Mossberg. Like an idiot, he aims down the iron sights, pulls the trigger and BAM, knocks his two front teeth out. (I think my buddy kind of let it happen deliberately, though I'm not sure). I don't even feel bad for that kid, he should have known better or asked for advice. Though I do feel bad for the women and kids in those videos.
