So the wife and I have a wonderful area at the house we can shoot on a regular basis. I began looking at some steel targets but when looking at targets I can shoot with the AR, the prices are way out of my league. Most of the steel targets i've found have been in the $450 or so price range for torso style targets. Anyone found targets that are reasonable (preferably under $250 or so)?

Ebay, there are many sellers who offer quality AR500 targets in both torso and various round diameters from prices ranging from $30 to about $150 depending on size and thickness. Just search for AR500 steel targets on ebay or Amazon. You will need to get 1/2" for high powered rifle and most torso targets are 3/8" for handguns.

I use scrap steel from local shops.

Buy thick stuff for rifles at 200+ yards.
Thicker for 100yd.

Shoot up until you need to flip them around and when you start punching holes, recycle and buy a couple more.

I have a chunk of 3/4" thick scrap hanging out at 500yards that I've been shooting 5.56 at for well over 10 years.

But if you want to buy, Wideners sells cutouts.

I'm lucky. We have a big steel supplier not far from where I live. Acres of steel I beams, pipe, tube, rod, flats, and sheet in any material, alloy, or hardness you want.

They also fabricate. I have had them cut disks out of AR500 for me before with their plasma cutter. They call a couple of days later and I pick them up.

I'd buy there even if it was more expensive. The gantry cranes, shear presses, and surplus equipment makes the place like Disney world for me.

We have about a dozen of their targets of different sizes. I screwed up while function firing a new 5.56 pistol upper and hit one of them at about 20yds. Not a scratch, would not recommend this but no damage.

Their targets are very affordable.
