What's the advantage of a military style canteen over a regular shaped bottle? Is it just a personal choice thing or there is more to it?

Theyre designed anatomically - the inner curve is supposed to make them more comfortable to carry.

Is there a significant difference between the military aluminum canteen and the stainless steel one besides weight? Are there supposed to be ill effects or taste from aluminum?

1. Cost. I'd love all my kit made from titanium, but...

2. Aluminium at 2 or 3 litres per day has far less effect than 55 grains of lead in a millisecond.

3. Plastic doesnt shine.
