Just heard from a friend who works at one of these stores, they have been told that the stores will be closing, along with many more in the nation. So much for being able to find reloading supplies reasonably priced in this area. Will try and find out schedule for the closing and the sales.

I just called the store. The guy at the gun counter confirmed they are going to close, they are not going to get restocked on anything before they close, and he thinks they might have about 60 days left before the doors are locked.

However he said the sales will start soon... and be very good.

Guess where I'll be this weekend???

Here's a link to an article I found. Looks like they'll be closing 23 stores nationwide. http://www.kpvi.com/Global/story.asp?S=9974818

Newschannel 6 has learned this evening that Sportsman's Warehouse may be closing its Pocatello store, along with 22 other stores nationwide in the near future. Sources close to the retail chain say there have been several meetings Monday with the corporate office that have laid out the details of the possible closures.

Sources have also confirmed for us that 29 stores will remain open under the Sportsman's Warehouse name while 15 other stores will be purchased by a Canadian company called UFA. Those store will continue to operate but under a new name.

They have only been in one of those locations for just over a year, new building and all. They are not competitive at all in my area. In fact they are about a 1/3 more than other similiar retailers. Guess being greedy has got them nothing....

I'm not amazed.

The local one here is closing too, for a total of 23 nation wide.

And of course their shelves were empty. They never restocked jack in a timely fashion. 2 years ago I'd go there with a long list of reloading supplies to buy. It got to were I was lucky to come home with one item.

They were losing $150 to $200 per trip every two weeks from just me.

I even emailed the store manager about the problem and got zilch back in reply. I did however have a clerk in the hunting dept tell me they had little to no choice of what they received if they were out of an item it "might" come in.

Whom ever did their distribution and warehouse system needs their butt tossed out on the street.

Plus, I do agree about their prices getting outrageous on a lot of stuff. So I just stopped buying from them.

So to Sportsman's Warehouse in my best Nelson Muntz:

Agreed. The one in Southaven, that this thread is about, was never very well stocked and the selection in most of their departments was consistently cheep merchandise. Not to say that they didnt have some quality stuff, just mostly cheep stuff. Probably things that could not be sold to REI, Bass Pro, etc. Another thing is that their website sucked a big one, couldnt find what was stocked in stores much less order online. Come on, in the day and age if you want to sale things you better be able to do it online. I just hope they have some killer sales soon.

They are closing my store as well, in Minnesota.
The place seems to get a ton of traffic, it is in a great area and their prices are way better than the Gander Mountain and the Scheels we have, our Cabelas store is near an hour away.

I'm fairly surprised they are closing this one.

It sux but we'll get what we can on the close out sale.

I saw an interesting story on BBC News last night. The venerable Woolworth's chain closed earlier this year throughout the UK. One young female manager of the Woolworth's in Dorchester, England knew that her store consistently had strong sales revenue. So she approached the Woolworth's management, gathered some investors together, kept the existing stock and location on the high street and re-opened as Wellworth's. They are doing a land office business.

I think this is a good lesson for Sportsman's Warehouse and other chains facing financial stress. If one or a few stores in a chain are doing well, then don't let them close simply because the entire chain was mismanaged. Find investors, open a new stores at the same location. Continue doing business under another name.
