I have heard that doing so will devalue my gun.

Are any of you familiar with this fine gun?

I cringe when I see a chopped up collector gun. I wouldn't do it, but that's just me.
I agree. Keep it original and enjoy it for what it is- a great example of American quality and history.

If you want a more modern shooter, buy an inexpensive Mosin Nagant 91/30 and "modernize" it.

But keep the 03 as is.

You both make compelling points. Thank you for your input.

I will keep the gun as it is.

It IS a piece of history. Thanx for mentioning that.

Please leave it as. I will tell you a little story. About two years ago I was helping my sister in-law and her husband move. We were almost done packing the truck when her husband hands me a rifle and say will hold this for me. It was my grandfather's and my wife will not allow guns in the house. I had this hidden behind the boilder. It was a Springfield 1903. I told him I would take it temporarily and clean it up. In the mean time he should look for a new wife. Fast forward a few months, I had the rifle cleaned up and inspected by a qualified specialist. Turns out it is worth over $2,000. The rifle is now allowed back in his house, some how he convinced her. Those old military rifles keep going up in value especially those in original condition.

Don't screw with an O3A3. You will not improve the gun and you will lose value quickly. this is a good gun. Most old military guns are not improved and you can do better buying a hunting gun if thatis what you want.

you can't compare an 03A3 to an m44. They are in two different catagories. Not to put down an m44 but they are dime a dozen for real short money, go check out what a good 1903 springfield will fetch and you'll see what I mean...
