This weekend I was riding through some 4-wheeler trails when I drove through a spider web.

The web became entangled around my boonie hat, so the hat came off real quick.

This type of spider has been discussed before. Anyone want to tell me its name and how bad is its bite??

LOL Ammo, you'd be the one to know huh? ;)

I used to collect these things as a kid when living in Florida. Thought they were the coolest looking spiders around.

Don't think I ever got bit by one, and if I did they can't be very lethal, seeing how I'm still around!

Per, thanks for the site.
Sent it to one of my sons, who's boys are in Scouts, plus they just moved to a rural wooded area.

Ammo, SERE much? According to Skippy's List, SERE grads will always eat a bug on a dare.

I didn't recognize the spider, but I suppose I could've looked around for a snake or something to feed it to.

"Harmless" is for spiders that don't come into contact with me. The ones that acheive contact - accidently or not - will meet a swift death.

I took my father in law fishing the other night and on the way back to the truck i asked him if he needed a flash light to see in the dark. He said no he would make it with out it. I started walking about 10 minutes after him to the truck and when I started to walk I spot a little sparkle on the ground. I looked closer and it was a spider about the size of a silver dollar. I shined the light higher and seen thousands of sparkles:eek: I zig zagged across the field and told the FIL you better be glad you did not take the light. :D:

Here in Florida, this is the one that I hate. I know its harmless, but would you want this thing on you? Add to that the fact that the web is VERY sticky and very strong, you will beat yourself to death when you walk into one. Attached is an interesting article on them and approaching hurricanes.

And you know when you are hiking here in FL that their webs are at the exact height as our faces LOL

I did that once, walked face first into a golden orb's web. Needless to say it would have probably been comical if someone was watching me jumping around and clawing at my face. There may have been a couple of girlie screams but I don't remember. Never did find that spider but I did take photos of another huge golden orb spider nearby and did research on it later.
It's not poisonous, it really is a good looking spider as spiders go and it's web does look golden in the right light.

I see these all the time when I go out in the woods this time of year. BLEH! I had one on my rifle the last time I went out squirrel hunting. Scared the bejeebus out of me when I sat down to rest.
