People often put labels on those who do evil things. In this context, the perp is a woodsman, a marksman, and someone who has skills to survive in the wilderness with little but his resourcefulness. What's in a name? I'd simply call him what he is... a cold blooded killer. Some could call him a terrorist, mentally ill, a militia member, whatever. He is somebody in dire need of a dirt nap, nothing more. Hopefully, the police will waste a few rounds and save the tax payers a fortune when they catch up with him.

 

Like it or not, there are some classic "wackos" at this site. Some who secretly want the S to HTF. Probably some at nearly every site, but this site might tend to attract a lion's share. I may not make "friends" stating that (do true survivalist really need that many "friends")...but it's probably true.

That said, we seem to have a government bent on destroying anyone who doesn't want to walk in step with the Progressive plans for America. A Survivalist mentality is probably close to the exact opposite of their plans.

 

You should see all the misinformation being reported in the press. Earlier they touted how he had the favorite weapon of the survivalist/terrorist, the AK-47. Now they can't explain why he dumped the AK in favor of his other weapon.

The guy apparently has caches of food around the area and has a number of hidy holes around. Initially it was claimed he was super stealthy but they are finding his trails all over the place. That area has some dense swamps so I think it's just a matter of time.

 

I'd like to know the reasons why this particular group of police were targeted, whether it was random or not.

The way I feel about this would be different between just "Average Joe Cop" or "Dirty Cop" or "Cop who has killed an innocent in a no-knock in the past". But if this guy is is just sending out lead in a general hatred for police, that's unfocused and frankly wrong. It's one thing to blame a group for the sins of its members, its another to start executing them for it.

 

No reasons have come out publicly so far. I will point out an interesting item, the killer's brother lived in the same development as one of the targeted cops. So far nothing has surfaced to indicate they knew each other.

In general the PASP have a good reputation.

If he had been Black, Latino, Muslim, etc. NO mention of that would be in the press. But b/c he was a "prepper" the press has no qualms giving a whole group a black eye b/c of one guy. I am all about 'fairness' If you print a story making a big deal about a white cop shooting a black teen, then be fair and make a big deal when a black teen shoots a white cop. Fairness. Many fringe anarchists who have committed crimes were 'preppers". But now that the press has put this out there, how about an uplifting story about how preparing for the unexpected can save your life? I bet we don't see that one...

 

To add insult to injury the guy is outfitted in Serbian military clothing. Last year I bought some of the same gear from Sportsman's Guide as cheap camo for hunting. Now I can't wear it at my woodland for fear of being miss-identified.

 

I thought about purchasing the same, until my boss (who was a Navy SEAL) told me some stories about them when he was there fighting them during the civil war.

The guy may very well be a prepper. He may not, but can't through everyone into one block. There are good teachers and bad. There are good cops and bad. There are good preppers and bad. No group is 100% good, or bad.

I agree with you Jungle, but look at discussions throughout the boards. LEO's are this or that. Everyone in Congress is corrupt. If SHTF, the military will come after us, etc etc. Lot's of crazy talk for sure. Within any group there is good and not so good members.

The problem is that media and the Democrats ALWAYS label shooters, spree killers and murderers with the title of survivalists, right wingers and the old John Birchers labels. What is also interesting is that when you do a backtrack on these individuals, it is not uncommon to find out that most of these people vote Democrat or have left leaning influences in their lives. Once this set of labels begin to surface then the press, media and Democrats suddenly go quiet on the shooter's background or political influences.

The guy who shot Gabby Giffords actually worked on her re-election campaign months before he went bonkers, stalked her and shot her. The kid who did the school shooting at Sandy Hook, his mother and father had connections to the local Democrat party. It goes on and on. A while back it was joked by a comedian that "in order to make America a safer place all we needed to do was make it illegal for liberals and Democrats to own, possess or use firearms." Google "liberals and firearms violence." See what you've been missing...

There is a WHOLE other side to stories that make the news than we ever hear.

That is generally the media's doing, not the police.

 

There are a few people in the effected area that wish they had prepped. Some areas have been asked to "shelter in place" several times while police searched the area. There are even people running out of prescriptions or supplies like oxygen that are getting escorted supplies. And this only after a few days in an area that often gets a lot of snow. Amazing!

 

Where in the world does the idea come from that says the troopers were armed, that it makes a difference if he would have approached them face to face? This guy is trash and deserves what he now gets - period. I only hope he gets his just reward before he has the chance to harm anyone else.

 

You get what you give ,most people judge other groups ,race ,religions and peoples looks.

You don't like others judging you yet you do the same thing. (not all of you on here judge just a lot of you)

I'm listening to WMAL right now and the news break just said that he's playing a game of cat and mouse with the police that are searching for him. They've found two of his shelters where they found Serbian cigarettes and used adult diapers. Apparently the cigarettes point to his cold war reenactment history and the diapers are "a survivalist tactic that allows one to stay in place for a long period of time."

 

Merlinfire-I'm with you about the books. If a cop saw them I would be in trouble. I have "The Clansman, The traitor by Dixon and am looking for the opposit number Uncle Tom's Cabin by Stowe." Survivalist is a neat catch word instead of mental ill role playing idiot who went off the deep end. There used to be more of tis when "Dungeons and Dragons" was big on campus. Survivalist sells more newspapers. When he is caught the defence will be tempory insanity and he needs to go to a hospital and then released.

 

Sucks when one guy tears up the reputation of a large group. Hope they catch him soon so the stain can begin to fade.
