and it has a 6+1 capacity...i hunt in ny. is this technically illegal? and if it is, how would i go about chopping the tube down if i so decide that i dont want to "risk it" any longer? thanks for your help.

I would call your local DNR or conservation. But my thought would be like a shotgun and a plug. Made out of what? Dunno, maybe empty casing?

The cartridge amount apply primarily for box--detachable-- magazines and semi auto rifles.

There are far too many Winchester and Marlin tube fed lever action rifles out there---they are an actual mainstay of hunting for them to be suddenly outlawed...There are tens of thousands of them in hunters hands in the Northeastern woods.

That said it should say in your hunting regulation handbook or as stated, check with the local DNR/Game Warden.

In Oregon, magazine capacity limits for big game hunting only applies to semi-autos. Five round max.
