I have two of them. An M&P15OR and an M&P15PS.

I've had nothing but good experiences with both of them. They protest a bit if they get dry, but haven't had any problems otherwise. I shoot 55gr Federal mostly, but have put a few boxes of various rounds through them also.

What exactly are you wanting to know?

Owned one. Excellent fit and finish, you get a quality rifle in all regards. Even better performance. 2000+ rounds of pmc 223 fired through Pmags with zero issues. If AR's are considered unreliable, Smith smashed that notion for me.

Should not have sold it, getting the MOE version when funds permit.

Was doing the typical 'window shopping' and got to check 2 out. One had the 4 rail front on it and I've seen some pretty funny pics on other AR threads of overkill regarding add ons. Made me wonder what a person puts on all for rails.

But mainly since I'm waiting for my new M&P9 w/ crimson laser grip to be mine I was wondering why not get her a little sister. The why not was I gotta check things out with my brain/think tank.

Saw another AR that I had no reference for at all - Olympic? Asked the salesman about it and all he could say was they start in the 700's. Liked the M&P better. With so many folks makin AR's now it is hard to keep things straight.

Palmetto State Armory has both the piston system M&P15's on sale right now, don't know when the sale ends.

Man, that is a hell of a price! Especially for a piston system! At that price you better believe the M&P 15 is a great rifle! But, S&W is not quite as good as an LMT, DD, BCM, and Colt, but a little better than a Stag, RRA, and BM. I would go for it. In fact if I did not just buy a new stag a few weeks ago I would be picky up a S&W from palmettostate!

Heh I don't know anyone licensed with an FFL who wouldn't charge me for the service! Local store has http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/1723.php for $1199 right now.

I've owned several AR's over the years, DPMS, Bushmaster etc. Last year I picked up a S&W MP15P. The DPMS and Bushy are good solid AR's, yet when it came time to thin the AR herd they went way. I kept the S&W. I like the piston design over the direct gas impingment design and S&W makes a superb Piston AR. They are spendy...

As far as piston vs. DI - either can work and either can fail, it depends on the initial quality and how you maintain them. Myself, I have two DI ARs, both built up from stripped lowers (one S&W) and see no need for the extra expense and non-standardization of the various piston designs.

Anyway, that's up to you and what your research says to you. In general S&W makes a quality AR and you could do a lot worse. If the price is right then buy with confidence.

From what I've read online and y'alls views I'd say no to the piston as my only AR. Now if I ended up with 2 or 3 and the funds maybe but that will be a few years.

Thanks all
