I found this guide a while back, but I forgot about it and just found it on one of my hard drives. So here are the instructions I found in the form of .jpg images. I did not make these and in no way claim them as my own. I am simply posting them because I find them more useful than a half-assed guide with no visuals. Enjoy

This is fun. I remember back when I thought my SKS was the bee's knees (READ: It took me forever to save up the EIGHTY bucks they cost new...) I tried hard to find this. You had to buy it as part of some one's crappy "Fight the man," book from some shady places.

I never had the guts to do business with those people...

Yea the delta press or whatever is probably run by the federal govt just to see who buys the books and put them on a watch list. Personally most of those books can be found as free .pdf files through file sharing and other grey area methods, but there still free.

Forget trying to convert them, just buy the SKS M or D models built for AK mags.
I have an SKS M. It is one of the most accurate guns I own, however there can be some fumbling involved when changing the magazine. Sometimes it can take a few attempts before the magazine locks. It is definitely not as smooth as with an AK. It makes quite the little dilemma for me, the gun is very accurate but do I want to be fumbling around with a mag if my life depended on it.

I found the exact same thing. AKs swap mags with ease. The SKS-M takes the same mag but swapping mags is NOT easy.

My SKS are not my primary weapons but I keep them to share with people I trust should we ever need to defend ourselves.

Here in NY I read unenforced state law as banning everything with an AK receiver, so I sold my AK and kept the legal SKS. I figure I'll just stick a 40 round mag in her and hand it to my wife while I use another rifle if we need to do so. That gives her 40 shots without a need to reload..... There really sin't much that can't be handled with 40 rounds, especially with another shooter to cover you should you need to reload.
