Ok, before you vote, here is the scenario for a SHTF Situation:

The President comes on almost all TV channels and announces, "As of 1 hour from now all cities and roads will be under Marshal Law. No-one is allowed to travel and all resident's must be indoors by sundown everynight until further notice. The entire US is now under Marshal Law and you need to follow all the instructions given to you by those men and women performing thier jobs. Because of a delicate situation invovlving National Security in proportions we have never seen, I can't discuss why we need to do this. I will bring you more information as I can."

Not knowing anything what would you do?

No BOL to go to.

I don't usually go with the flow.

I guess I am somewhere in between wait and see and arm everyone.

Since I live about nine miles from civilization and can go up to a year without buying food, I would just maintain the status quo on my farm....until the next broadcast....anyway....
Well since I would not want to be stuck at work (and I have the luxury of the ability to work from home, assuming I have internet connection) I would gather what I need and head to the house (we are bugging in) and hole up there until the stupidity ended......which includes pulling family and weapons close.

The Prez would have to explain the situation or whatever leads up to it would be fairly obvious. Also, it would be pretty hard to logistically impose martial law nationwide in an hour without someone having noticed the build-up. Regardless, I'll play your game.

I'm assuming power and utilities are still working in your scenario and there are no other major disruptions to the supply chain since you just called "martial law".

First, I'd stay put and not bug out.

Hit the Ham radio, listen to broadcasts and from other areas of the country and world for more info.

Restrict my travel to what is only absolutely necessary, then travel in pairs when I do.

Start carrying the Glock .40 as my CCW and use the .380 LCP as my BUG when outside the house. Probably add the tactical shotgun into the truck.

Probably try to top off the tanks on our trucks if possible in that hour but we have enough food reserves for at least a year and enough water for 90 days and enough fuel for cooking and limited power for close to 60 days now.

Fred, I love your scenarios.

First, i could gather the family and implement my emergency plan, and let them know what the deal is. I would secure EVERYTHING!! I would implement watches and just monitor the situation. Nothing crazy like armed sentries (at least not yet).

Fred8328,

These are great keep it up.

Since I'm already living at my BOL I opted for door #2, wait and see what info comes out. The news folks always have sources that speak "on the condition of anonymity becaus they weren't authorized to release the information" LEAK it.

Somethig big enough for the POTUS to declare martial law without explaination, details will get leaked.

I agree with Robstar on seeing the build up and not getting caught off guard. I too would be topping off the tanks and several fuel cans.

Arm up. Check your weapons and ammo. Get the BOB ready. Call your team members. Be ready to move at a moments notice.

You may have to move in spite of the "president's orders"...be ready to deal with that..

i would close myself in with my fiance, load all of our weapons, and just wait....watch news if possible....see what people are doing outside...and just wait
I wait and see, but I would also go with the flow for the most part. I love how so many folks have a "rambo, shoot it out" fantasy. I would hide my guns, and go with the flow until I knew for sure what was going on, and who was on my side. I've experienced first hand, from the working end of a rifle, what the United States Military can do to it's enemies. To hole up and shoot it out with even inexperienced troops, would be a fruitless act of suicide. And besides that, one of the first things to happen under martial law would be the suspension of the second amendment. Bluntly...your guns would be gone. unless you hid them well. So in short. The first days of martial law, when everyone is on edge, and trigger happy, and scared for their life. Wouldn't be the best time to start shooting. You would want to wait to act on anything, until all are settled in and more comfortable with their new found situation.

The area where I live is densely populated, so bugging out might bring risks. Taking a stand is only for militias, I won't do that alone, that would be suicide. I would take option 2, although bug out might not be a bad idea either when they come to disarm you.

One hour gives me enough time to get to my home if I am at my job, as long as the sheep are not clogging the roads. I live out in the country with about five LEOs for the whole township and about two LEOs who work in town. That is a lot of ground for those seven LEOs to patrol by themselves. If caught out after cerfew I do not think I would have a hard time getting home. Traveling my road in a vehicle does make me a much easier target to detect, though, but I am confident that I could sneak home on foot without being seen if the patrols are not using NVDs.

Once home I would lock the doors, batten the windows, arm myself, and keep the lights off. All remaining supplies would be carefully hidden in case the "authorities" come by to disarm me or confiscate everything "for the good of the nation". I might even leave a note on the door saying something like, "Jack, we went to mom's house to ride this thing out. We left our five dobermans in the house to guard it, so watch out if you enter."

Then I would sit back and watch the news, not answering the door if someone comes.

Before I answer I want to thank Fred for making these... though the first two were city related and I would more than likely die...

Not knowing what this danger was, I would Break out the weapons and stay put. If emergency lockdowns are put in place, it's for a reason. I don't care if it's a government takeover or not, it's smart to seem like you are complying if they are, and it's good reason to arm up if they aren't.

I'd hide the car in the garage, turn off the lights, Turn off the TV, lock the house and the animals up, Set up a watch room in out shed to keep an eye on the house from a distance as well as keeping our eyes on our tools. We have so many weapons of differing types in the house that we could take out anyone who tries forced entry. (though it would be better to take hostages so we aren't charged with killing "keepers of the peace")

I dont see how all the roads could be patrolled. Its just not reasonable. There are people on the road for long drives everyday, what is everyone supposed to do? Pull over to the side of the road? What about trucks and public transportation like buses?

If I was at home, I would probably stay at home anyway. Bugging in is a good plan for the most part.
