I'm redoing my shotgun setup from various things / pieces of gear I've acquired over the years. Gun shows etc. Will post pics when done.

Interesting. What job/s will this shotgun loadout be designed for?

Dont use one of those sling shell holders…14 rds of OO throws the balance all out of whack…looks all cool but not worth the effort to fill the slots…I fell for that one…the side saddle mounted on the receiver works though👍 jme

Agree with not using sling shell holders. 2 full bandoliers over each shoulder crossing in front and back. Works in all the old Westerns. 😂

I had a bandolier for 12 gauge and .308 . While they looked cool ,they were annoying to wear and use. Save them for the Mexican banditos.

For now it'll be loaded with Turkey Loads 2x4. Turkey season is over but coyote season is always open. And Zombies aren't here quite yet 😂

Side saddle shell carrier, velcro. Pocket works too.

I once heard[speaker was heavy into his sour mash that night I admit🙄] it said that “if a werewolf gets after me, Im taking his legs off at the knees with Double Aught..he can chase me on stumps”🤦‍♂️
Guess that applies to zombies?🤔

I like the stock mounted shell holders- though I have 2 sidesaddles. The 4 and 6 shell California carriers make for the fastest reload in my experience, but mounted on the gun I prefer the buttstock holders- especially around the farm, I’ll carry 2#8, 2 high base #6, and two #1 BS ( compromise for beaver).

I like those shotguns with the 10 rd mags. They seem a good solution for a 12 gauge in static positions.

The shotgun is and always has been one of my favorites. Not just because of the versatility but they are very effective in urban combat. The biggest drawback is the shotgun is a hungry beast that demands a large penance be fed unto her for the exchange of keeping you alive.

As a survival choice,85 of OO,5 slugs and 10 birdshot and you have a huge load plus the gun itself…Too much weight penalty to make it a good choice to bug out with…around the homestead, or any static position, Its pretty bad-a**….I have the FN-SLP..Fires 7 rds of OO in just under 3 seconds..thats 63 33 caliber balls going downrange before, really, anyone can react to being under fire…Break up any hostile gathering at my gate..I really like it but its a situation specific weapon…Jmo

I usue the loops on the buttstock to counterwieght the light and shells in the tube. Almost doubles the wieght though. I call it my molotov gun, as in anti. I had to run through a couple boxes of #8 to get used to that and the 12g kick, especially with shots in fast succession with a pump. My hardest thing to get smoothed out was loading more shells as soon as I stopped firing. My old hunting habits were very difficult to overcome. Not sure that I have yet. I have a mossy 88 with a security barrel, and my ancient 870.

I had a conversation with a fella once. His comment was "if you broke into a house, what is the one weapon you would not want pointed at you?" I said a shotgun. He said bingo! Threats can still be a threat after several rounds of handgun and rifles. However, taking 1.5oz BS to the chest is going to incapacitate nearly anyone of any size on any substance. Shotguns are significantly underrated for a HD weapon.

I have lots of birdshot shells but if things start going south I will convert them to cut shells.

Fast reloading under stress is critical skill for SG work. You could make the argument it is even more important than overall accuracy at close ranges depending on if you are using slug or 00B.

Yes you have a good point and I agree it is very important. Ammunition management is another important issue as you just cannot carry the same amount of rounds that someone like the average rifleman does. All of this being said, a shotgun is still my go to. You have to be able to handle them with authority and they aren't for everyone.
