I have a Marttiini Carbon Puukko and need some suggestions on working the blade. I have always used a lansky sharpener for all my other knives but due to the single angle this knife needs a stone.

I am new to stones and need some pointers.

What would be a lightweight device to carry in the field to maintain a edge ?

Thanks

Bru, lets see a pic of the knife, it sort of helps people to remember the answer to your questions, kind of bribe them with knife porn, just a friendly tip, seems to work.
In the field I carry a small Lansky ceramic, just to maintain the edge. There are water stones etc, but I am not sure which as I do not have one, however there are loads of the buggers on the site that wil bombard you with imfo.

I've got a blade like that.
What works for me is running the stone more perpendicular down the edge then along it. I do as many strokes as required to get a burr on one side that I can feel with my thumb, then do the other side to remove the burr and get a nice, sharp edge. I don't do the 'hair on forearm' test, I run the blade along a callouse on my hand and see if it slices in. Good luck.
