what do you think the best "shake light" is or hand crank light....waterproof, brightest, durable?

I dont own any, because i would rather have a proper light and some rechargables and a solar charger, due to the lack of output from all shake flashlights.

However, here are the already open threads on them:

I think the general consensus is that the nightstar one is best.

best led flashlight with solar charger? on the cheap lol
Whats on the cheap?

Solar chargers ( 4xAA) run around US$20 (check Amazon, search solar AA charger)

Its hard to find chargers for other batteries that are as cheap and durable as these, so now your looking for a AA LED flashlight.

That all depends on your budget.

Streamlight 2xAA ProPolymer is good (i think runs about $20)

I wrote a big list of manufacturers in a post around here somewhere lol, but off the top of my head again, you want to look at the AA torches from the following manufacturers (in no particular order):

Streamlight
Fenix
Nitecore
4sevens/Quark
ITp
EagleTac
Olight
Zebralight

The hard part about finding a good shake light is finding one that the coil and magnet actually work! A bunch of ripoff artists have been pouring them onto the market that have a hidden battery that powers the light and the shaker does nothing. When the battery dies, the light is trash.

From everything I've read about them, the majority of them are over-hyped junk.
You're better off buying a couple real flashlights from quality manufacturers, and keeping a good supply of name-brand batteries.
Get several that use the most common sized batteries, like AA a D.

I have yet to find a shaker light that is worth a crap. Bought one of the very first ones that came out on TV years ago, I keep it in my boat, works like $hit. 1 minutes of shaking for 4 minutes of candle light.

Even the cheapest crank-lights are better IMO. I'm sure they'll break eventually but I haven't had one break yet. I keep a couple around for emergencies. One even has a USB port on it so I can charge my phone.

I have heard good things about this crank-up/solar lantern:
