Sam's Club Website now has an "Emergency Food" catagory

I think Sams Club is Wal-marts warehouse store. I have a second cousin that works for wal-mart and he has privileges at Sams as a result. So wal-mart might be right behind it. My info could be wrong so don't quote me.

In my area there is a store called Winco. Very good prices there and I understand that they just started selling food grade buckets and gamma lids. I haven't made a Winco/Costco run in a few weeks so I haven't checked.

Yes, I think prepping is becoming mainstream. I see it more and more as time goes on. I think folks are scared about the economy. And of course, there is that 2012 thingy...

I was looking at that a couple months ago and was wondering if anyone had tried the food to see if it was worth it?

On the level it looks OK if someone is a vegetarian. I am a meat eater so it wouldn't be much for me.

Yes, Sam's Club is part of WalMart. It's a play off of the founders name Sam Walton. I'll have to pop over to my local Sam's Club & see if any of it is in the store or not.

momma, I've been planning a switch to Costco even though it's farther away. I need some things though, so I can make a stop at Sam's and see if there's anything noticable in the local store.

I wish we had a Costco here in Arkansas. Perhaps they won't build one here because of Walmart world HQ being here in Arkansas. I'd certainly like to have a choice.

This is interesting, even though the page is forbidden on my end. I wonder if they have a 24 pack of M.R.E.'s? lol

The page comes up for me, and it does say "not available for pickup in my local store" when I browse the items, but what the page says, and what my store has often differs. I did not see MREs, but an unfamiliar brand (read Sam's/Walmart brand) #10 cans of freeze dried and and kit stuff. Veggies, fruits, meat substitutes, powdered dairy products, powdered dairy substitute, etc.

Shipping is ridiculous. I had two 6-can cases in my cart totaling $128 and they want $38 to ship. They're crazy. Where's the "pick up from local store" option? I'm not paying that membership fee for my health.

Thank you all for replying. I am three hours from a Costco and two hours from a Sam's, so I can't just pop over to look. I was at Sam's two weeks ago and there wasn't any in the store.

I did order some items from Costco, including a 55 gallon water barrel, seed banks, their 6 pack of cheese in #10 cans, and their butter, shortening and egg 6 pack. The shipping was included in the price so there was no surprises.

I think maybe we should launch a e-mail campaign and request these items to be at least available for "in store pick up."

Wow, that is a lot.

I did figure out I could order the cans cheaper from Costco then I could directly from the supplier. I will have to check that with Sam's.

I noticed that they have the Moo milk. It has scored higher in the taste tests and reviews than other powdered milks, but it still looks unaffordable for my huge family. I guess I will be sticking with re packaging Wal-mart brand. At least I know it is made in the US and not China.

The prices for some of the stuff is very cheap. The 2 pack of #10 cans of whole eggs are $22.82 and that price is almost the same for only one #10 can of the same thing from other places. I noticed the strawberries are cheaper also for a 2 pack.
I know that when you shop at walmart.com, some of the items can be shipped to your local walmart so you can pick them up. I haven't looked to see if it's possible with these products.

Actually $19. a case for heavy cases isn't that bad. It's been a long long time since $3. shipped anything.

This is why the $5. can of whole corn costs $12. each with "free shipping" from some of the "free shipping" scam companies. They factor the shipping costs into the price. It's not "free." For a case of 6, your overpaying $42. but hey your getting "free" or "one price" shipping, so people fall for that like crazy!!

So you can pay actual shipping and pay a good price per can, or you can fall for the suckers trick of "free shipping" on drastically marked up individual cans.

I prefer not to play games or have games played on me.

Has anyone found the items in the Sam's Club or Costco stores?
I haven't had any luck, but I'd be very happy if I could get Gamma lids and #10 cans in the stores.

ha. Not likely around here! I keep reading on boards where people get huge bags of beans and such and theres none of that stuff here.
Around here, their idea of preparedness is a firstaid kit and flashlights! LMBO!!!

I have never seen a bag of beans at my Sam's club, I imagine the stores in rural areas carry different items then those in metropolitan areas. I highly doubt they will ever carry any of this survival food in #10 cans in the retail stores.

Our local store has red beans only. I have never seen a different type. Usually when the local grocery stores run sales they are cheaper then Sams.

These are dang good prices. I will check out our local store here and see if they stock it.

I didn't know about Winco. Thanks for the info. I have one of those stores in my area and will be checking it out to see what they have.
