S&W Shield X

I started carrying the S&W Shield 1.0 when it came out about 13-ish years ago but struggled with the capacity and always carried multiple spare mags. When the Shield plus was introduced I put away my original Shield and got the new 10+1 model right away, and I couldn't have been happier. Until I realized the only light option wasn't really that great. So it goes without saying that I was thrilled when Smith & Wesson came out with the Shield X. Same old reliable and accurate shield with 13+1/15+1 capacity, a short picatinny rail, a full 3 finger grip, improved ergonomics for most hands, and slide serrations front, rear, and top. Plus it is optics ready with noticeably improved Ameriglo Bold sights.

As of this morning I have about 600 mixed rounds through mine without a single issue. The trigger is slightly better than my Shield Plus, as are the sights. The ergos are better, and I like them, but they do shorten the trigger reach. Something large handed people may not like. Mag availability is not great, but I was able to snatch up a few more flush 13's and a few extended 15's last week so the factory is putting them out. Once my red dot arrives I will be throwing that on and keep shooting it until I surpass 1,000+ rounds. Then the Shield X will become my EDC and the Shield Plus will join the Shield in the safe.

I will also mention that the Shield Plus feel just like a big Bodyguard 2.0 380, which will serve as my BUG to it's larger 9mm brother.

Anyone else a fan of the Shield, Shield Plus, or Shield X?

I have a few varieties of the Shield. In my humble and worthless opinion, they are among the best choices for concealed carry guns on the market and have been for years.

My current carry choice is the Shield EZ Performance Center in 9mm. It's even blinged out in gold in "Liberace" style.

I will be adding a Shield Plus to my EDC rotation, which currently consists of a Shield9, LCP MAX, S&W 642, & Glock 30s if I'm in the mountains and may encounter a bear. The new Shield Plus has been flawless so far, once I've run some more rounds thru it, it will replace the Shield9. The M&P Shield line is, and M&Ps in general, are some of the best pistols available, IMO, they point naturally, the ergos are some of the best, they are "Glock reliable", and S&W continues to add capacity and features that keep the pistols competitive.

Living here in California, and their idiot "Safety Roster", has limited the new, smaller pistols I can buy (sadly), but I bought a couple of Kahr CW-9s many years back (one for , one for the wife) that have been 100% reliable, but limited to 7+1 rounds of 9mm... I also have an HK P2000SK 9mm "light" LEM pistol (13+1 with X-grip adapter), but it's heavy and somewhat thick... I would love to buy an HK CC9, but don't know if it will ever be available here...
There are some versions of the S&W Shield 9mm pistols that are starting to be legal to purchase, so I guess I'll have to have a look at those too...
But in the immediate future, the Kahr CW-9s are far better than nothing, and very lightweight and slim...
There are rumors that the Safety Roster will be gotten rid of, so there is hope if I live that long...
