hmm close call, id say no before id say yes. but how many times are you planning to kick dirt into your barrel and how many times do you want to submerge it into a foot of water? if your looking to use it for a SHTF scenario go glock, but if you already have a handgun and want a new toy, get the S&W

I've not shot the M&P yet, but as someone in sales in a gun shop, I can tell you one thing... I have yet to have a customer bring one back to me unhappy. We've sent none back to the factory and no one who has bought one from us has had a bad word to say about them. I take that as a very good sign.

Though I've never been a fan of S&W's semi pistols, they hit a home run with the M&P line. I got the chance to fire one in .40S&W a couple months back and was extremely impressed, it's ergonomics, pointability, and reliability are all excellent.

One in .45acp will be finding it's way into my safe real soon.

I have the M&P 9mm and the M&P .45acp. I am a novice shooter, but these guns shoot to point of aim at 25yrds for me. I like them alot, no FTF's(failers to feed)yet, but have only put 50 rnds through each gun .Easy to stripdown and clean. Here in Ohio the M&P 9 sells for around $400 and the .45 for about $450. I think S&W still has a deal going on ,for which you can get 2 free extra mags(total of 4) or a $30 rebate. Mags cost around $40 each so it's is a pretty good deal.

I own a MP9 and I highly recommend it. It is on par with my XDs or Glocks, but with much better ergos.
There were some issues with mags dropping, strikers breaking, and rusting when they first came out but it appears those issues have all been corrected. If you do have a problem, you can count of S&W to take care of you. Their customer service is excellent.

Before anyone mentions anything too negative about the early problems, I would caution them to remember that even the Glocks had issues in the first gen......as much as they try to forget.

I love the M&P line of guns. Currently have a 9mm, .40, and .40c that I carry. Been lucky enough to never have any issues with them as well. This gun feels so nice in the hand and shoots nice. So far most of the people that I have heard bad mouth them are Glock fans.
I wish the M&P would get as much press as the XDs and the Glocks.
