WASHINGTON — The Russian military has moved artillery units manned by Russian personnel inside Ukrainian territory in recent days and was using them to fire at Ukrainian forces, NATO officials said on Friday.

The West has long accused Russia of supporting the separatist forces in eastern Ukraine, but this is the first time it has said it had evidence that the Russian military was operating in Ukrainian territory.

The Russian move represents a significant escalation of the Kremlin’s involvement in the fighting there and comes as a convoy of Russian trucks with humanitarian provisions has crossed into Ukrainian territory without Kiev’s permission.

Since mid-August NATO has received multiple reports of the direct involvement of Russian forces, “including Russian airborne, air defense and special operations forces in Eastern Ukraine,” said Oana Lungescu, a spokeswoman for NATO.

NATO’s secretary general, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, criticized the Russian moves in a statement issued in Brussels on Friday.

“I condemn the entry of a Russian so-called humanitarian convoy into Ukrainian territory without the consent of the Ukrainian authorities and without any involvement of the International Committee of the Red Cross,” Mr. Rasmussen’s statement said.

“These developments are even more worrying as they coincide with a major escalation in Russian military involvement in Eastern Ukraine since mid-August, including the use of Russian forces,” the statement continued, adding: “We have also seen transfers of large quantities of advanced weapons, including tanks, armored personnel carriers and artillery to separatist groups in Eastern Ukraine. Moreover, NATO is observing an alarming buildup of Russian ground and air forces in the vicinity of Ukraine.”

corruption everywhere>
Corruption and repression are why Ukraine has had many protests/revolutions since they escaped the russian boot. It's why their military was looted.

It's the reason why there are some problems with their military and upper eschelons of their government at present, why sometimes it seems like the russians/chechens know where they are going to move next....and when.

People have wondered why some ape crossings from russia have been left open, why there wasn't a lot of defensive action at first by the Ukrainian army, and even rumors of some Ukrainian upper officials getting $100K/truck that is allowed to cross into Ukraine.

It's also why the safest troops to be with are the militias, Azov, Donbas, and Aydar as they are strong Ukrainian nationalists, not part of the corrupt government that used to be. And they didn't operate jointly with them due to their distrust of them....along with the police that were notoriously corrupt.

Poroshenko just dissolved their parliment. Good for him. There are still corrupt putin puppets in there, impeding progress in Ukraine. If Ukraine is wise, they'll take these corrupt officials and call them what they are, 'traitors' and execute them. The survival of Ukraine is at stake.

Most realize that the media is controlled more so then ever, so if you want the truth you have to look at the alternative news sources. Since alternative news is hidden and even blocked by some search engines, even by some ISPs you have to even use search engines in other countries.

Yet there are always a few in denial, or since they can't find it in english on google it must be false. They need to try Ukrainian keywords.

A good example is the military has blocked some alternative websites and some social media sites. You can google a list.

Now why isn't the russian invasion on every tv station like the iraq was? Well, first its not a war the US has tens of thousands of troops in and the white house is still playing the dog and pony show with the public.

Do you see the russian troops being shipped out of America? Nope, they are still training on our bases. Look it up.

Then the so called blockades on russian goods somehow increased russian production and sales, so russia isn't being punished at all.

Russia has been saying it had no troops in the ukraine, but videos all over the net show russian tanks, which are different from Ukraine tanks distinctly. I don't expect civilians to know the difference.

Google, yahoo, bing and the most popular search engines seemingly or coincidently don't list certain alternative news sites. So using an alternative meta search engine helps solve that problem.

Good post, every update is important on the russian invasion as it does affect us all on this world. It only takes a small war in europe to grow into a world war.

Also, the paid putinbots know that if they have X number of votes, the 'objectionable material' will be removed. This is especially noteworthy on youtube. There was a kidnapping in Crimea by the russians that was caught on a security camera at a bus stop and I'd link that a lot, but then it was removed--but I downloaded it as I always do because, restricting the flow of information is how russia works. What's interesting is hardly anything has come out of Crimea...for some reason.....

I'm not on facebook/vk, but I'm sure it's the same with russian govt pressure, or direct ownership in the case of vk. They're pressuring twitter also.

The sad thing of it all is if putin's russia was allies with us we could be great allies and a lot of common islam enemies would be a target, It would be "the first galactic empire" ha, ok see maybe it's best we remain enemies, I have no idea. Nobody can predict the future, only strive for the present, and I strive for a corruption free mankind! You won't find a corruption free government no matter how hard you look!

Exactly! Don't know how old you are, but when the berlin wall fell we cold war types felt the world, the universe changed and finally everthing, everywhere would open up and be good and free. The only problems in the world were the plo and lebanon would just stay in beirut ( ;) ).

But russia remains a captive of its history, just like china.
And russia could have developed a relationship with china that would be mutually beneficial, but they didn't and because they couldn't as they can't.

Know the parable of the scorpion and the frog? It's who they are, they are russians (or chinese). At least muslims have their made up religious cult to blame for every muslim culture/country being f'd up. Russia only as russians to blame.

Now nato is talking about putting 'forward bases' in eastern europe.
putin is teaching europeans a lesson in standing on their own hind legs in their own back yards after all. If they are independent countries, they really should do all they can to defend themselves.

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen survivalist!
See negative attitude towards Russia. I see that Russia is considered the aggressor. This is not so. From the standpoint of Russian - the civil war in Ukraine was caused by the United States. The United States and does not deny that sponsored coup in Ukraine.

But the Russian never afraid of war. How much we all wanted to win - with the French army, Napoleon, Hitler, the Germans, Romanians and others, Swedes and others - and all of Russia broke her teeth. But there is one feature of the Russian national. Russian never attack first, but fighting desperately, if forced to fight.

Um, so Finland attacked russia?
Poland attacked russia?
Estonia attacked russia?
Latvia attacked russia?
Lithuania attacked russia?
Romania (bessarabia) attacked russia?
Manchuria attacked russia?
Japan attacked russia?
Maldova attacked russia?
Chechnya attacked russia?
Georgia attacked russia?
Crimea attacked russia?
Ukraine attacked russia?

Wow, you poor russians holed up in russia, the whole world attacking you.
I'd just start firing your nukes now, while you still have a chance, before it's too late.

If Russia shut off gas - will suffer (freeze), and Ukraine, and Europe. In this case, Russia will suffer the least. China buys Russian gas. But if that happens - the white world is threatened - and the yellow race will strengthen their power. In any case, Russia and the United States and Europe need to be friends. When this policy will understand ...

V269,
Then you would remember when russia's ebola like death grip on other countries finally failed. Man, what a great time and thing to have witnessed. How retarded (backwards, retarded growth) the russians had the east Germans was astounding and it became a joke to the West Germans, when someone did something stupid or didn't know how to drive, etc. they'd say they were east german.
Yet more wonderful influence russia had on people, but at least there was a punch line out of it for some.

Pres Bush (vers 2) tried to bring putin in, vouching for him in the media, but towards the end he realized "we lost him", putin was kgb and went back to wearing that skin....because he always was that.

Look at all the business deals russia has had, the big ones and who is there....vlady. Why is that little chimp there? That would be like zerobams doing that. The reason why is because he runs russia, period.

No idea where any of this will go, but as stated, it's on auto-pilot now and there will be damages.

Yup, the scorpion and the frog is a pretty wise story.
There's an arab parable where an eagle is shot by an arrow.
The eagle looks down and notes the feathers on the arrow that has impaled it.
"We have been smitten by our own kind".

russia is very hard for me to figure out, i wish they were more pro western because siberia would be a very nice place to visit in summer, nice lakes and rivers and all of eastern russia is sparsely populated. lake baikal, and lena river are extremely interesting.
Thats a pretty good arab parable I had not heard either, where do you hear of such things?

Whenever they print " NATO officials said on" or simply " officials said on"
It's a Lie.

What they do is Sensationalize a topic in the News and then add "officials said on (Day)" to legitimize it in the public's eye.

Propaganda 101.

Russians crossing the border in three fronts. Heavy armor.
Yup. They've been shelling Ukraine from russia for a while. They've had their troops and armor in Ukraine for a while. Remember, a heavy SAM like the one that shot down the civilian airliner can't be operated by someone who was a laborer or welder, then just come in and punch a button. ;)

Putin wants a 'land bridge' to his new ship building facility in Crimea that he stole from Ukraine, not to mention another port in the Azov sea...and if any mineral deposits are in the ground in that mining area......

I just can't believe he's conned so many people for so long. I can understand russians falling for it because, well, look at the people that still believe in zerobama's BS. But for people in the west that are free? That still floors me.
