I won a Ruger SR9C in a raffle last month and wanted to share with you my thoughts. I am a firearms instructor as well as a fugitive recovery agent so firearms are a big part of my life.

I am a 1911 guy and I carry a Sig daily for work. When I won the Ruger SR9C I was thinking crap... Guess this would be a plinker. A range bag gun or perhaps a good stash away pistol in a Bug out bag. I was to say the least, not all that excited about it.

However the Ruger SR9C is a much better Gun then I thought. Out of the box it is right on. It does have fully adjustable sights, but mine did not need turned at all. I have put 2000 rds through it with all kinds of brands to see how it handled. Some of the brands include: PMC, Brazer Brass, Speer Lawman, Remington, Federal, TulAmmo, Winchester, Wolf, Corbon, and more. They have been FMJ's, JHP's, Most have been brass, but some steel cased. The result has all been the same. Bang. I have not had any failures in anyform. They eject like shot out of a cannon and feed like a bucket of candy flavored popcorn to a fat girl.

The Ruger SC9C brakes down so easy it reduculise. Easy to clean. Light weight to carry. Both a 10 and 17 rd mag come standard.

If the SR9C has a down side it is the cost of spare mags. At 49.00 each.

The SR9C though is one of the best guns I have ever fired in a rapied speed attack. It just comes right back on target. It makes you look better then you really are. Tight groups and same hole hits are comman. Its balance is perfect.

Retail is 550.00, but I see them for 399.00 all the time. If you have a chance to shoot one, please do and I promise you to will be a beleiver as well.

Like I said, I am a Kimber / Sig man, but this SR9C is one sweet hunny of a gun. If you like glocks you will love the ruger to. Its just like the glock trigger but only 5 pounds. Mine is smooth as silk with no creep. If the action on the one you tried was rough then something was wrong with that one gun. So for every one I have let shoot my SR9C has either went and bought one or its on the wisg list and that includes to guys that was bashing it before they fired it. now they beleive too.

I'm looking at getting a 9mm. Don't have that caliber. I've seen pretty positive reviews on the SR9c. It's about $100 less than the Glock 19. I have two Glocks already & well, they're Glocks! They work. Haven't shot the SR9c yet. Maybe that'll help me make up my mind.

I happily own both of these. I love to shoot the Beretta, but I'm more accurate with the Ruger. Both are great guns. If I could only have one, I'd go with the SR9c. The 10-round mag makes it compact; the 17-round mag takes it to full-sized. Like getting two very fine guns in one. I love them both, but the SR9c is just way more versatile.

This is something that I have been thinking about. Before the internet most folks bought or traded for guns that 'felt right' or 'shot good'. I think a lot of us still feel this way however there appears to be a group of growing folks that purchase due to stats and reviews.

Take this Ruger. On paper it is nothing special at all. More bulky, same old capacity, etc. Without actually shooting one you would never know that it is a real quality piece.

Or, in my case, you shoot one and found it was the worst of the bunch. Whereas, on paper and looking at in the display case it was the gun I was most interested in. Not to say it's not a good gun, it just wasn't right for me. Fit has a lot to do with it.

To your point...you really need to shoot any gun before buying it. My local gun shop has an indoor range and rental guns. I rented about 8 guns all at once. Shot each side-by-side one right after the other. The ruger was the first one I put on the "don't want" shelf. I eventually narrowed it down to 2 guns and settled on the SIG P239 in a 40 cal. I wish it held more rounds but it shot so well I couldn't pass it up.

Ruger has been putting out great firearms for years, and American made. As a firearms instructor you're post almost sounds like you had never shot a Ruger or heard of one for that matter.

Hell they've been around since 1949. Have you never heard of (since your a firearms instructor) the Ruger Blackhawk, Redhawk, LCP, LCR, P95, SR-556, or both of the SRc models. Ruger doesn't manufacture junk. It's not like you were given a High Point C9 or a SigSauer (jk)

My daily carry is a SR9c, goes bang and has every time with 1,500 rounds through it.

Great firearms from an American company with outstanding customer service.

I bought an SR9C a couple of months ago. I've only put about 50 rounds through it but I really like the way it feels in my hand. Mine shoots a little to the left... I just need to get out and shoot some more to dial it in. I still carry a pocket revolver for CC, but when I get a decent IWB holster I'll probably make it my main CC weapon.

I have a Ruger SR9C. It is a great high value gun. Compact, feels great in your hand, deadly accurate, great trigger, fairly priced, what more can you ask for? I have over 700 rounds through mine and I've never had a FTF or FTE. Sometimes I'm really amazed how accurate it is. This is coming from a big 1911 fan. I bet the Ruger SR40C is really nice too.

i love my sr9c!

my question is to the barefoot dude as to how i would go about polishing my barrel as well, anything to make that action more smooth would be great!

i love how it shoots, i noticed most of the kick is in the action and i was able to keep steady and on target at about thirty yards with my 17rnd clip i only missed a small 3'x3' card board box at 30yrds

cocking it is a bit tough though, does the action break in and is more smooth the more rounds i put through it or what? any help would be great i dont know anything about pistols to be honest

I have an SR9C along with several other Ruger firearms including P89, P94, LCP, and SR556. They are all great guns. all except the LCP have had thousands of rounds through them and they have all functioned flawlessly.

after market sights

Love my SR9c. Comfortable carry, reliable (thousands of rounds), easy operation, and great on target. However the rear sight does not allow for one hand slide operation if the dire occasion occurs that requires it. The leading edge of the rear sight is slopped. Anyone have a recommendation they would like to share?
