I want to ad a rail to my ruger p85 mkll. I realy like this gun for home defence, but neads a rail for a light. I have found a aluminum picitiny rail that is ment for the 92fs and 1911
.
I am wondering if i could weld this rail on since they are both aluminum. Also should i even consider a drill and tap with jb weld? I want the rail to look factory. Thanks!
Well if I were goin to do something like this.. Still prefer pistols without mounted lights.. I would drill n tap.. That way if ya ever wanted or need to remove the mount.. You could! Alittle locktite.. I wouldn't use JB weld.. Too brittle!
Thank you for your responce. I understand were you are comeing from with the drill and tap. Realy thou im shooting for that permanant , finished look. This gun is kind of my entry into gun smithing...so realy looking for fit and finish. Im mostly worried about warping the frame if i weld it.
I don't know how I stumbled across this thread and I know it is old but in lieu of starting a new one I just wanted to shay that there is a company that makes rails for older guns without a rail already. The company I found that does this is Ramlite. The address for the P85/P89 specifically is: http://shop.ramlite.com/Ruger-P89-90-NewTech-Rail-RUGR03.htm
I am not a spokesman for the company but I have checked out their numerous youtube videos. They appear pretty solid though and they make mounts for a lot of pistols out there that do no have rails. So if you have an older pistol like an M9 or 1911 this might be the place.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
