So I was working in my backyard today putting up a fence for my new dog and noticed two people riding horses on my neighbors property. Low and behold they cross the property line and ride right past where Im working across my property like they have no care and start tearing thru my woods:mad:Im standing there dumbfounded:confused:Ive seen horse tracks and 4 wheeler ruts cut thru my yard when Im not home but this just really p***ed me off I just stood there and stared them down asking them WTF they were doing. Time to by some M80s again and toss them behind their horses

Tossing an m-80 behind a horse is an extremely poor idea, unless of course you want to loose everything you have when you cause death or serious injury to the rider without a care.

I would be extremely careful to read any paperwork about whether your new home has some sort of contingent for keeping an easement for horses. That is what we have here and if you build on the easement they can come tear it right down.

I understand you might be upset but would it have been prudent to ask them why they were going across your yard and request that they stop?

Go get some old strands of barbed wire from a local farmer and loosly lay it in some tall grass - horses will catch there legs in it, 4 wheelers will get it tangled in the axles.

My house has been here 7 years and this isnt the first time this has happened. No tresspassing signs, fences, gates is doesnt matter. My property used to have a old trail which connected to the resort behind me most of it undeveloped. Ive had people act like I was the problem asking what the hell their doing in my yard.

Im thinking if being "nice" and asking where they live and doing the same to there yards in my F150.

As long as its on YOUR property. Take a 2x4 and hammer some long roofing nails through it. Bury the board on the 4 wheeler ruts and sleep tight knowing trespassers will pay a high price for new tires. :D:

Sink some old metal fence posts in the ground, cut them so only 6"-12" is sticking up out of the ground.

A simple sign "This Area Spiked for your Trespassing Pleasure" seems to work.

Its also the beginning of pot growing season and there is a lot of traffic on the resorts backroads this time of year as in the fall, about 3000 acres of vacant land. Ive seen guys carrying stolen goods from the houses they rob to cars parked in the culdesac in front of my house. Cops and resort security come down the same trail asking me questions.

Of course there is this big dead oak tree which would block all of their access if I can get it to fall the right way.

Just put a barbed wire fence over both sections of the trail

Put up signs that say "danger mine field" and just see who chances it. Then if they do, use the m80s. It will scare tho poo out of them.

Pasture gates.
thats a page from I believe the Army Improvised munitions manual.
I would recomend not doing anything that will lead to you losing your house from a lawsuit. Most of what has been posted would classify as booby traps wich are illegal, except possibly taking the shotgun trap and making into a noise maker. my recomendation would be take pics of the people doing it figure out were there coming from/going and tell em once stay off my property and when they do it again call your sherrif and say I have these people whom I have repeatedly told to stay off my property, horse trailer/truck licence plate number xxxxxx I would like to file a criminal trespass charge as they are destroying my property (fences yard whatever) and let the law handle it. Nothing tells people you mean buisness than the law showing up at there door followed by a possible civil suit.
And the nicest thing about it ITS FREE... well for you at least:thumb:

Why not just go up to them and ask them not to cross your yard. Maybe it is just a misunderstanding. How were they to know you were the property owner? You mentioned a lot of vacant land is it possible they thought it was ok for them to be riding where they were?

too bad you didn't have a pet Bigfoot to chase them away...
As the owner and rider of a horse I am sorry to hear about your problems; not all of us are this way.

When things like this happen, it's natural to fantasize about the dirty tricks you can pull to thwart those who are wronging you. I do it too, and it *is* awfully tempting to consider actually doing these dirty tricks. After all, it's your property, right?

The best thing is to first have a polite word face to face with them. It's no fun and probably not as satisfying as passive-aggressive dirty tricks but it's usually the best thing to do. I'm not all that up on my Bible but I recall hearing something as a kid that stuck with me all these years. Paraphrasing from memory: If you have a difference with your neighbor, take him aside and have a word with him before getting the law involved.

I had a problem with some neighbor kids opening my gates to cut through to a creek at the back of my property. My wife wanted to just call the police but that just didn't sit right with me. So when I saw the kids again I calmly told them that I didn't want them cutting through my property any more and that was that.

I've dealt with things like this a lot also and it's just indicative of the mindset of a lot of people... simply no respect for other people's property. I remember a post on this site from a guy who was outraged that people posted their property and that the land should be for everyone (kumbaya).

I hate to say it but it's just people being people... unfortunately.
