I applaud Kevin's attempts to keep some of the trolls and hostility out of the religious forums (i.e. prayer requests, devotional area, etc.), but frankly, I am getting sick and tired of seeing some good Christian threads started only to be thoroughly disrupted on a frequent basis by people such as Smudge and others who are downright hostile towards Christianity. I am tired of being challenged at every turn to defend my faith and to have some really great thoughts and ideas by other members interrupted constantly.

Is there ANY way to allow for Christian discussion here without the people insisting on throwing a monkey in the wrench? This may be a problem for other faiths here as well and if so, I'd like to - in fairness - give them the same area and opportunity to spot among fellow believers in peace.

So we should block people from commenting in threads? I dont get it? How could we even begin to implement something like this?
I'm a MOD over at XColony, and we just simply ban all religious discussion....but I'm also a faithful Christian and can see the validity of the request.

If you want a decent, specific forum devoid of harassment, and your MODs or ADMINs are unwilling to grant faith-specific boards with dedicated MODs for them, start your own "invitation only" social group, and moderate it yourself by rule of inclusion/exclusion.

Isn't that a bit disingenious? Many posts by Christians in the religion section are not about faith or the exercise thereof but are aggressive and often ugly attacks on other beliefs. Are you asking that such bigoted remarks be protected from criticism?

As for a Christian section, that seems a good idea. That would make it easy to purge it of non-Christian threads and comments et cetera.

Although a Christian, I voted for No.

This forum is supposed to be open to all religions, so if we grow a large group of another religion, this means we'd have to do the same for them.

Don't want to defend your faith every time you post something? Then ignore the poser who's attacking your points of view. (Easier said then done of course.) If they get out of hand, use the grievance section or use the report function.

I can't speak to that because I am not one of those posters.

My point here is when Christians are talking to other Christians, they (or at least I and others who are voting yes on the poll here) would prefer not to have to see sniping from the opposing viewpoint. There is already more than enough anti-Christian commenting here already.

Just put the trolls on your Ignore list.
Thanks for the suggestion, but why should I be the one to have to go to all of that effort? Why isn't more done to prevent these "trolls"?

Just because you feel that a person is a troll, doesn't make that so for everyone.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. My view is if you create a forum it is the forum owners/operators job to police it to enforce certain basic behavior, not the other way around. That is the way it works in any organization or any business offering a service.

I'll just do the ignore thing I guess.

I'm raised Christian but the last time I was in Church was when i was under orders to escort a recruit that had mental issues, and that was in the Reagan administration...

I voted YES because I dont want to see them attacked while trying to network and socialize within their own community. If SHTF and I have to atone for my failure to go to church in order to survive, I'll think about it... but today... I'm not going to ENABLE anyone else's agenda to attack things they dont like. I might agree that there's probably no god, but I dont feel the need to attack Christians for it, and the more those that do (who love to make a giant show of attacking Christians), make me start feeling the need to start looking at them... VERY VERY VERY CLOSELY... through my scope.

And we do, but just because you don't want to hear what another poster posts, doesn't mean he's a troll. Hence, the best course of action would be to add him to your ignore list.

We try to our best abilities to make sure that posters post within forum rules. If you see a member not doing so, then please alert us to this. There are several hundred posts being made daily, it's extremely hard for us to catch all the "bad" posts. :thumb:

I agree, BUT I also add that if the Christians didnt fan the fire it would die out. Just like the Muslim "bashing" and for that matter religious "bashing" if you feed them they come in packs, ignore them. Dont even reply just continue on the topic of the thread.

I will be 100% honest, political or religion unless it gets out of hand as a moderator I stand back and watch, doesnt mean I aint there, just means I am silent to the thread. The reason is I cannot police those sections without 8-10 hours a day to devote to those sections alone. I honestly figure that if you are a survivalist and venture into those places (and I used to, and have the infraction to show for it) then you get every bit of that section.

I am not saying dont play by the rules, quite contrary I am actually saying to contact me or any mod etc. and let us know so we can handle it, dont cry if nothing happens, but let us know so we can review it and decide on a course of action.

I want this site to be moderator free, and user friendly. BUT without help from our members it places an ungodly amount of work on admins and mods.

Feel free to contact me through report a post, or private PM messages, I never let one go unanswered. Sometimes I do refuse to answer whiners though :)

Let me know what we can do and I will try my best, but at the same time, fair is fair, I see a great amount of "religion bashing" from all religious posters so..........

I guess I don't understand why someone would disrupt a thread discussing religion in that manner. It is not an honorable thing to do. It's not like you are arguing someone's choice in a weapon or the contents of their BOB. However, I also believe in an open forum even though when you leave the doors open possums frequently wander in. The ignore function is very useful. Not responding to those who are obviously trying to get a rise out of you is also effective. They soon tire of it and go somewhere else. Heck, I even have people whos posts look like text messaging on my ignore list. (U for you, R for are, ppl for people, etc) Sorry to hear you are having that trouble. Any flame war is maddening but attacking peoples faith , or lack of, crosses the line. No good can possibly come from such discussion.

Some just snipe for the sake of sniping. All we can do is ignor them.

I voted yes. :thumb:
