Record Cheese Stockpiles!!

Like it is claimed that DeBeers has chests full of diamonds, but releases them slowly to prop up demand and inflate prices, it seems cheese is being stockpiled.

I kinda bring this up ‘tongue in cheek’ because it just seems funny to me, but probably cheese, especially hard cheeses, keeps better than milk and most other dairy.

It’s a boon for us older people tho: remember the old cheese giveaways years ago? It was said you could not get a ‘group photo’ of old people because when the photographer said ‘cheese’ we’d form a line....

1385 Billion pounds of cheese. Say 7 billion people on Earth

1385 divided by 7 = 197.856 pounds per person. [Ignoring the fact that other countries have cheese and there are more than 7 billion folks. At a bit more than half a pound a day that could feed everyone for a year [assuming other food like elbow noodles...]

Using data from a cheese package in the fridge. Say 900 calories, 60 grams protein and 150% of the DRA of calcium. That and some fruit and veggies would be a vast improvement in the diet of many people in the world.

I will let someone else calculate how many pounds of cheese that is for just us Americans. And how long that would last us.

Perhaps this is what the gov. intends to feed folks should SHTF etc.

Could you imagine trucks hauling cheese to the cities [and everywhere else?]?

***********

When the cheese giveaway program started [early 70's ?] I can remember my grandparents saying no way were they going to take a hand out, and they didn't need to.

BUT....those were big five pound blocks of cheese, and certain ladies figured out how to use it to cook big cassoroles of stuff for church pot lucks etc.

Oh, was that good cheese!

My grandmother [the other had already passed away] made macaroni and cheese I would kill for. [And haven't tasted since they stopped that cheese handout -- how did they do it different than all the various varieties in the stores today?]? I can remember my grandmother commenting that she couldn't find cheese like the government handed out anywhere else.

That was real American cheese. You can still get it in 5 lb blocks at Sam's Club. A decent cheesemonger could probably get it for you also. It's still being made all over the country. Some artisanal cheese makers in Wisconsin make higher grade versions too, but I haven't tasted any.

1.385 billion, not 1385 billion pounds, so about 4 1/4 pounds per american.

A surplus here does not necessarily mean chinese sales. chicken feet are almost worthless here, don't know why it's not used to make stock, and sold well in china till chinese farmers complained about dumping and tariffs were added.

Chicken feet make really good stock. I just threw them away when I was done with the stock, though. They looked awful.

Have you tried Cabot extra sharp white cheddar cheese? So good. Sometimes I buy a 2 pound block and work on it every snacktime. So good.

Yea, where the hell is my special GovCo program.
Do people know how hard my life has become not being able to eat dairy any longer.
Just going out to dinner can be really difficult, a man can only eat so many chicken fingers off the kids menu you know.
Lets not even get into all the daily hardships I contend with now.

Oh wait, I'm a white male, nevermind.
