Reason #2 why I prepare

Here's perhaps the most damning article about our political system I've ever read. The author, Brett Arends, argues that we're witnessing three of the largest bankruptcies in recent times. In reverse order of importance, they are:

3. The Obama Administration
2. The Republican Party
1. The United States of America.

http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/111590/biggest-bankruptcies-weren't-on-wall-street;_ylt=AhAUGSl7PPUCn.ao_5IFBti7YWsA;_ylu=X3oDMTFmcmlzZXNhBHBvcwM2BHNlYwNleHBlcnRPcGluaW9uRHluYW1pYwRzbGsDd2h5dGhldGF4ZGVh?mod=bb-budgeting

After a deficit-reduction panel report last week that counseled significant sacrifices, and was ignored by both parties, we now have a runaway spending machine: The Federal Government, brought to you by Obama and the Republican party.

Unbelievable. This reminds me very much of what I was thinking when the housing bubble was forming. When people could no longer afford houses in places like California, they found a way for them to afford them. And thus beget the housing crisis.

I see the same thing with our government (lower case "g"). We can no longer afford the things we want, but our "leaders" have found a way to "afford" them.

That "way" is going to bite us right in the butt. Hard.

And so I prep, and work toward survivalism and sustainability.

(My reason #1 is energy, for those keeping score : ).

The other two are bankruptcies of character.

Jefferson

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.
Thomas Jefferson, (Attributed)
3rd president of US (1743 - 1826)

Hard to say this is something new, it's been going on for close to 100 years. Ever since our government gave away the printing press and created the 'Federal Reserve' they've been busy destroying this country. Before that the government could print it's own money. Since then they have to pay interest to 'borrow' the same money.

Anyone remember seeing the Gold or Silver certificates? By 1933 we were pretty much broke and taken off the gold standard. I even remember stories of the government coming around and seizing peoples gold jewelry in exchange for these worthless pieces of paper, before they then make owning them illegal. Some say that there's no gold left in Fort Knox, given away to pay the interest on the debt.

As far as debt and the interest on it FDR did his best in spending a fortune only for the other Presidents up to Carter to pay back much of that. But that changed with Reagan and we started his 'deficit spending' that continues up until today. Even the Clinton 'surplus' didn't reduce the deficit. It just meant borrowing less and you still were paying interest on all the previous debt.

If you're looking at the big picture, who really needs money anyway? All you need is a roof over your head. food, and water. okay, and clothes. Water doesn't cost much is you happen to live next to a spring/river which you can purify. people can grow their own food, and most people have a house anyway...at least in America. money is just a way to control people. So with no control, people will start to think it's chaos and act upon their own psychosis.

This government HAS to learn to get it's nose out of the private sector. Every program they have created has been a disaster. Ethanol, health care, cash for clunkers, you name it! If they ever want things to improve they HAVE to leave the free market alone. Even at that, it may be too late, the damage they have caused is unsurmountable. Dear Representatives, please protect our borders, keep the military strong, let individual states govern their areas, and get the heck out of the free market!

Sorry but the article you posted is nothing but crap in my opinion.

I wont waste my time going into detailed reasons why but my reasoning is that this article is nothing more than a blame piece.

The 3,2,1 count down?
3 - Blame obama For working with republicans
2 - Blame republicans For pushing tax cuts for the rich
1 - America is bankrupt Because Republicans wont default on the national debt nor cut defense spending..

Can you guess who receives NO Blame for the fall of America in this article? Their party name begins with a D.

This article is crap.

Edit:
All elected members, regardless of party, who voted for any spending increase during these times is at fault, not one person or one party.

I respect your right to your views! :)

I felt the article had more value in pointing to the problems we face and their intractability as opposed to identifying the guilty party. And as far as the Democrats? They're largely ineffective, aren't they? :)

Wake up America

I agree with everything that article says, but the goverment officials arent getting it, they spend billions of OUR hard earned money on illegal alliens giving them food stamps, visa cards and social security, also we have so many lo-lifes who dont work because they dont have to, all they have to do is have another kid and good ol uncle sam gives them more money..our money, (I'm not talking about honest americans who have lost thier jobs). The US government sends millions of dollars worth of foreign aid to other countries when there's starving and homeless children right here in the good ol USA which they dont give a crap about, on top of that congressman and other government offcials only have to serve one year yes one year in office and they get thier full annual salary for the rest of there lives..whats up with that, what makes them better than us...THEY are suppossed to work for US. in my opinion the american people need to get thier heads out of thier rears and look at what our so called government is doing, If they dont....GOD help us all

Maybe the 60+ new guys coming into the house in january will make enough waves to make people start paying attention to this. I wonder what the total unfunded liability of the US is now, in 07 I think it was 41 trillion.

actions speak louder than words

all the govs of the world with their actions continue leading us all deeper and deeper into world bankruptcy. which tells me when it all goes PoP they know what is going to happen next. i figure they are getting all the chess peices lined up and when the G20 finally agrees to a one world money system and they get it up and running.they will pull the rug out on the whole world, then they will roll the U.S. and all the other countries who go bankrupt into the new world money system and control us all

we are just in phase 1, welcome to the NWO boys :thumb:

Both parties in the Gooberment need to realize that a tax cut doesn't cost them anything. It isn't their money to begin with. Spending needs to be controlled so that we can provide for that small part of the population who can't help themselves.

why do you lump the "republicans" in this?....as if they are worse than the union controlled, big money controlled, elitist controlled rat party..

granted, there are tons of ruling class pubs running around...but for each of them in the govt there are 10 leftists communist democrats....

let me remind you that the richest people in the country are democrats...the wall streeters...the big bankers....they've got what they elected and since the rats have controlled the govt for at least 4 yrs now....long before the financial crisis....and have controlled the entire govt for 2....I think you need to be looking at the Schmers, the Reids, the Pelosi's, etc ....

Kudos Cryptkeeper, +1

I think unemployment is the #1 reason Americans need to Prep now, of course your scenario (OP) could result in unemployment.

Then there are the stories of Jerry D Young posted on this board, every reason to prepare!
