Here's perhaps the most damning article about our political system I've ever read. The author, Brett Arends, argues that we're witnessing three of the largest bankruptcies in recent times. In reverse order of importance, they are:
3. The Obama Administration
2. The Republican Party
1. The United States of America.

After a deficit-reduction panel report last week that counseled significant sacrifices, and was ignored by both parties, we now have a runaway spending machine: The Federal Government, brought to you by Obama and the Republican party.
Unbelievable. This reminds me very much of what I was thinking when the housing bubble was forming. When people could no longer afford houses in places like California, they found a way for them to afford them. And thus beget the housing crisis.
I see the same thing with our government (lower case "g"). We can no longer afford the things we want, but our "leaders" have found a way to "afford" them.
That "way" is going to bite us right in the butt. Hard.
And so I prep, and work toward survivalism and sustainability.
(My reason #1 is energy, for those keeping score : ).
