Minnesota agencies monitoring radioactive chemical leak in Monticello

The Minnesota Pollution Control agency says the tritium leak hasn't left the facility or contaminated drinking water sources.

Heads up Minnesotans.

Radiation exposure hasn’t been part of my preps. Mostly, I just pray that if that plant goes, or bomb is dropped, it takes me out quickly. But, I should at least have something on hand for “minimal” exposure.
Any advice would be greatly appreciate.
I will head over to NBC section, and take a look around.

Well, it's not good to have anything go wrong at a nuclear plant but if something had to go wrong, a tritium leak isn't the worst...

Health effects
Tritium is a relatively weak source of beta radiation, which itself is too weak to penetrate the skin. However, it can increase the risk of cancer if consumed in extremely large quantities.

Tritium can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion or absorption through the skin. Most tritium leaves the body as tritiated water in urine, in breath as moisture and through perspiration. Most inhaled tritiated hydrogen gas is exhaled immediately.

Do you have a geiger counter or iodine? I've heard iodine isn't worth it for older folks. You either screw up your thyroid or eventually get cancer. I think about all one can do in a melt down is evacuate.

I don’t have either.
Finally have peace in my life and live on my dream hobby farm. That won’t be the only thing having a meltdown… I would be devastated, to say the least. If it happens, I pray the Lord brings me home, quickly.

When they say “400,000 gallons of water has leaked into the soil”…….I’d say it has exited the facility. That’s lots of water.

And that is the nut - nobody trusts the plant operator or the Regulators, who are often on a revolving door between the FedGov and the industry regulated - and not just nukes, but Big Pharma, but banking, chemical and rail - just to name a few.

Not sure if I should ask this question here or move it to NBC.
My SHTF scenario is power grid failure related. Whether it’s due incompetence by our government, which in Minnesota is highly plausible, or terroristic attack taking down the grid for extended period of time. What is the likelihood they are prepared for this inevitable event? Do I just prepare to get out?
