We (Montie Gear - www.montiegear.com) make outdoor products for camping, shooting, hunting, slingshots, etc. Most of our products are simple but all are very high quality and made in NC.

You can view the catalog at:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/189239463/Montie-Gear-Catalog-v4

What are some simple products that you would like to see on the market to help in a grid down situation?

Comments, PMs or emails (montie@montie.com) are all welcome.

Thanks,
Montie

First off, your work is very nice. Below are some suggestions.

Water proof storage tube for matches.
Larger wp storage tube for ammunition, .22 mainly, 50 or 100ct.
Small cup like a GSI that fits on the bottom of a nalgene bottle.
cnc aluminum hand fishing reel!!!!

That's what I can think of right now. Feel free to hit me up for more detail if you want on any of those products. I love anything made in the US. And all that stuff is so heavy duty you will have it for life unless it's stolen or lost.

I just deleted a good long product idea, but decided to hold it to myself in case I can ever afford a small home shop. I want to make and sell them myself, I think.

Unless you guys would be willing to work with me on a branding scheme where I get a healthy percentage of the product sales for the design idea and use of my "Vanishing Nomad" name.

I have conceptual designs for a knife, fire starter, canteen and a "Vanishing Nomad" edition of an existing tent. I also have a design for a piece of outdoor clothing.

If we were to do business, the deal would have to be such that if our relationship was ever severed, *I* walk away with all of my products, so i am free to contract another manufacturer to continue the line.

A few ideas off the top of my head:

Fishing kit box with a flat kite string winder as the reel that fits in the box, already rigged.

Game cart flex/swivel hitch unit and belt to attach to various game cart handles so they can be pulled hands free.

Anti-tangle bank line dispenser (also 550/750 cord dispensers)

Stand up tent stake driver & puller for those of us that can't bend down or get down on our knees and then back up very well. Might be designed to also be used as a tarp tent support pole. Perhaps with a line of stakes similar to the MSR Groundhog line of stake designed to work with the driver/puller. (If you want details on the design I have in mind, PM me.)

A modern materials, fold up, atlatl with folding dart similar to the ones you already have.

A bellows/pump/tank assembly to use with quality, large caliber blow guns for those of us that can't get a deep enough breath to make effective use of blowguns.

A lightweight, fold up latrine support frame to make using a trench/pit latrine easier for those of us that can't squat down and get up un-assisted.

A much better design credit card tool

An EDC carry slim line elevator door opening pry bar

An EDC very flat, clandestine restraint escape micro tool with handcuff key, cuff shim, seat belt cutter type cutter for tape and zip-tie cuffs. Must be very flat so it can be carried in a slot in the pants waist band, etc.

A long, folding, shock corded, twist lock multi-use pole with long lanyard. With fish/frog gig head, fish spear point, recovery hook, rubber tip, ice tip, etc.

A converter/direction changer antenna coupler to allow use of a Yaesu FT-897D Amateur radio with attached auto antenna tuner as a back pack radio with the antenna coming up vertically out of the pack, so it can use standard antennas, including a 108" SS whip, with UHF, BNC, and whip thread adapters.

Quick on/off no-rubber, shoe ice spikes

A pair of quality, tethered, compact, protected push through, ice escape picks.

A quality, leak proof, single fill, Zippo lighter fluid tube. Better leak proof design (double/triple O-ring seals) than the Zippo model

An improved, lighter version of the German GI nesting knife/fork/spoon, can opener utensil set

Lightweight stainless steel 'sandwich box' size latching storage boxes (rectangular/square)

An Esbit solid fuel type folding stove tall enough to use the Esbit alcohol burner

A wilderness rolling pack carrier using wheels and designs similar to the Cabela's Super magnum dual wheel game cart or the Dixon roller pack, slimmer than a game cart, but wider than the Dixon, and designed to use a waist belt and carry several packs/duffles/etc.

Just my opinion.

It looks like you make nice stuff. The download bar across the screen wouldn't close with X, and it blocked viewing your stuff properly. Almost as annoying as a pop up.

If you are looking for products to make, you can have this design.

I reload so I always have some waste gun powder. I think there some fufu dust for sale that does an ok job at catching a spark and is ok to mail. I'm sure the ones I gave away will get you a free proctology exam at the airport by the TSA. This was my prototype a 30-06 case necked to 6mm to hold a quarter inch diameter 2.5" long ferro rod also epoxied into the neck. The 1/4-20 .5" long bolt is grade 5 and lathe cut to a square edge, that makes it useful as a scraper if you don't have a knife and a red rubber gasket to complete the sealed chamber. Will hold enough to spark up at least 10 near instant fires.
My next ones will be with a 3/8" x 4" ferro rod in biggger case like the 8mm Rem Mag.

I got a deal on ebay for the 1/4 rods. $20 for 20 of them. I made them up as Christmas presents 5 years ago. 3/8"x4" rods are $10 each.

I de-primed the 30-06 case, drilled and tapped the primer pocket to 1/4"x20. 1/2" long grade 5 1/4"x20 bolts were chucked into a lathe and had the outside of the head faced to make a 90 degree emergency scraping surface/edge. Originally I was going to add a carbide tooth (cut from a skill saw blade) to the threaded end of the bolt for a scraper. After a lot of thought I decided if you had no knife you aren't long for the world.

I necked down the case to 6mm (.243) to hold the 1/4" ferrocerium rod. Pressing the epoxy coated rod into the case forms a water tight seal/bond. I made flat washer rubber gaskets for the bolts. O-rings required way too much torque to seal properly than you could un-screw with just your hands.

Waste gunpowder catches a spark a lot easier than magnesium. You still need the proper makings for a fire, but it's a one strike deal for at least 10 emergency fires. The rod alone is good for 100's to 1000's of fires without the gunpowder enhanced start.

Fine powdered magnesium quickly oxides and looses much of its activity. Gunpowder will easily store for 50 years.

Longer rod, larger in diameter with a bigger case is the ticket along with a magnifying glass.
