Anyone ever used a SOG brand? Debating between that and Cold Steel Kukri.

I have 2 Sogfari machetes, they are good for the price, and the option of using the saw on the back is nice if you want to keep noise to a minimum, but I like my Kabar Cutlass better

I have 2 SOGs and no complaints ...I show others and they are impressed with the Quality...Great product good steal...IMO lot of product for the money..

DO NOT BUY A SOG MACHETE!!! They are garbage. Anyone who says they're okay hasn't really used one for any real bush work. I tried one out and it was fine for cutting vines and very thin brush. But as soon as I used it for some real work, it chipped, bent, and eventually snapped in half. This was the very first time I used it and it broke shortly after I entered the jungle. Horrible quality steel. I had to use my knife for machete duty for the rest of my trip. I learned my lesson about SOG's cheaper blades and won't make that mistake again. I bought a Condor machete and haven't looked back.

X2. I have put my Ontario thru heck and back. I believe it is the best out there. Also made in the USA:thumb:.

I've never been bushwacking through the jungle but I can say for light-medium duty my SOG has never failed. Woodsman's Pal is also a good tool. Stay away from Corona machetes; I have one I can't give away.

I agree Ontario is top of the line, I chose the 18in one with the wrap around grip, When I first got it I abused the hell out of it (chopping on hedge) and it held up better than me.

I have the Cold Steel Khukri.

I haven't used mine much yet, admittedly. First impression: Seems very solid with a nice cutting edge.

If you can make one out of leaf spring with good knowledge and skill. I think it would be better. There lots of info on knife making.

I have 2 of the Cold Steel Barong Machetes. They are made in china but they are good gear.

If you want American, Ontario is best.

Any of the South American brands are good.....except that Corona now has some models made in China that are no good.

I have the large and small cold steel kukri machetes. They are very good in my opinion. Never used a Sog.

What will you be using this to chop? vines and thick grass your machete will do better than a kukri. if your using it in a wooded area and clearing out shrubs, small trees, chopping small sized trees for firewood I would choose the kukri.

I believe a kukri is far superior for chopping compared to a machete which is made more clearing out an area of dense grass, and vines.

I have a cold steel kukri. price is right, and it takes a beating. I love mine.

Perhaps something like these? Variant Golok or the older Martindale Golok..

I have a couple of Kukris, however they are the shorter ones. A longer one 20-24 in blade would probably be best. I love the Kukris though!

Tramontina - The only Machete you will ever need.

Made in Brazil, mine are tough as can be, can be sharpened to shave hair, and are balance well for combat use.

Plus, they just look good!

Does anyone own a Gerber brand machete? I have seen them at ****'s Sporting Goods. Are they pretty reliable?

Am I right seeing the Cold Steel Machetes at only $8-$25. That kind of scares me a bit but would be more then willing to come to grips with it. Is this normally how much they are?

Edit. After looking around a bit I see alot of machetes for under $25...Ontario, Gerber, SOG, ETC....
