The variety is Amazonka and is meant to germinate within 7-10 days, now I have been using the zip lock bag method to germinate which is very successful with all other seeds apart from these. So the question is does anyone know if I’m doing anything wrong or if there is anything I can do to make these germinate.

The seeds are from a garden centre and they were not cheap so I don’t think it’s them

Also they have already been in for about twenty days.

Thanks in advance

Luke.

Not sure if this will help ...

Larger hard shell seeds should be nicked, filed, sanded or scratched then soaked for 1 to 4 days depending on hardness of seed. The use of potassium nitrate "saltpeter" at the ratio of 1 teaspoon per quart of water can speed up the process of softening up these kinds of seeds.

The seeds may have dies from mold in the bags. I grow giant pumpkins and the best way is to very gingerly put a thin SHALLOW slit around the pointed end of the seed to allow water in. Soak the seed in room temp. water overnight. Plant them in a reasomable quality peat based potting soil. Put the point end down and as deep as the seed is ling. Cover with clear plastic or saran wrap and keep under lights at around 75 -82'F. 5 -10 days should do it.

Your seeds have probably roted by now. +1 on kolidra's method. I take a nedle to the point tin mine then soak them in warm warter for two days.. Then a put them in Jiffy Organic Seeds Start Mix. 2 or 3 days later I have leafs.

I have also had luck giving my thicker ones a lay over in a wet paper towel for a day befor I put them in the dirt. Usualy the little root head will be poking out by that time and I know I have a seed that is germinating.

Quick test. Take one of your seeds out of the bag. squeece it hard like you are pintching it on the flat sides. If a terrible smelling white gel comes oozing out of it like tooth paste.....your seeds have rotted. Time to start over.

Just in case of mold or some sort of baceria or accedental loss of moisture I will stage my starts. Like say I have 15 seeds. I will start 5 then in a few days another five, and ina few days another five. This way you dont "put all of your chickens in one basket.

Thanks for the replies guys, I did the test and I have bad news looks like it’s time to start again. I don’t now why it didn't work it seems to with all other seeds.
I hope you are not starting pumpkins yet. Too early to be timed for around Halloween. Try starting like I described around early to mid-May. Otherwise a pumpkin in August tends to want to rot in the summer heat.
