Close call !
I am happy to hear you are O.K.
I am happy to hear you are O.K.
Spent casings landing in your cleavage is not fun, either. I may or may not have learned that the hard way.Glad you didn’t get hurt. I need a full face guard, apparently, as I had a .22 spent casing land on my lip once which was not pleasant 😁
Yesterday I was at the range for my birthday, just burning some 22 ammo and testing mags for my Mossberg 152, when a loud POP, burst of smoke in my face, and some stinging RIGHT beside my eye stopped me cold.
A .22 round had exploded in the chamber of my rifle and separated the rim head, leaving the casing stuck in my chamber.
I always used my prescription glasses to shoot, and my range always allows it, but they don't provide enough coverage to be real eyepro. There are marks in the glass of my right lens that were not there the hour before.
I am positive that if Ihad not been wearing my glasses I would be in the E.R. getting peices removed from my eye.
I was shooting a Glenfield marked Marlin model 60, loaded with Remington golden bullets. A quality gun with quality ammo.
And before everyone piles on with "thunder-dud", or any of the rest, I've been shooting Remington ammo all my life, and in a variety of .22's. My Marlin is a good, well taken care of rifle, and I clean my guns after every shooting trip.
I inspected the rifle after I got home, complete disassembly and cleaning. Both extractors are intact, and the striker wasn't hurt.
I recovered the casing, and I intend to frame it with a warning and hang it on the wall.
ALWAYS WEAR YOUR GLASSES .
I bet, have to wear collarless shirts too. After having a few get caught on my neck line smoldering, I never did that again.Spent casings landing in your cleavage is not fun, either. I may or may not have learned that the hard way.
Glad you're okay, DisgruntledPatriot.
Yep, been there, done that, in Basic Training with spent casings from an M-16. Had one land on the inside of my elbow, too. Those "left-handed ejector adaptors" they put on the M-16s for us southpaws were worse than useless - they'd channel the spent casings right toward the body. Still have the scar from it.Spent casings landing in your cleavage is not fun, either. I may or may not have learned that the hard way.
