so i went to the local shop today to grab another box of remington gold saber 230 .45 ammo and the guy wanted 31 freaking bucks. no mind you the regular going price a week or so ago it was 14. i told him that was ok that i would just get it offline for the regular price and he got quite rude and said that that was the competitive price in the area. i just laughed and said have a nice day, but seriously. has anyone else noticed price gouging on ammo since obama got elected. i know for a fact that two weeks ago at the same shop i paid 15 +tax and that it was the same freaking lot of ammo. just makes me sad when people complain that little shops just cant afford to stay open, but then this shop goes and starts charging double. i can see why people order offline more now than ever, no hassle about finding what you want, truely competitive pricing, and its shipped to your door.

Even the chain stores are increasing their prices although not as steeply as the store you mentioned.

.223 ammo at Academy has been $5.23/box and the new shipment is now priced at $6.29/box. Not a huge increase but an increase over two weeks ago.

I noticed that too Bretnteri--on the Monarch ammo w/ steel cases. Walmarts 9mm 115 fmj two weeks ago was 9.95 a box. On Sunday is was 13.95. Same with 30-06 ammon. I usually pay 13-17 per box of 150 gr Remington or Winchester. Saw it this morning academy for almost $30.

It is happening here as well. I asked someone that worked at the store about it and he said "it is supply and demand my friend". He said that they had their best month on record last month and this month is looking to pass it before christmas. People who have never owned a gun before are buying and these stores feel that they can turn a profit in these tough times.

I bought 50 pounds of .22's from lousy Chinamart this month for about 2.5 cents a round...... not to bad considering everything else.
I concentrated on 5.56 and other things months ago....well, actually started years ago.
I am now buying 12ga buckshot 00 and #4 I'm paying about $4.75 or so for 5 rounds from Chinamart.
I wish I had another option other than Chinamart but they rule the roost for .22 and 12ga around here. Gunshow sellers don't seem interested in these rounds. I guess .22's are too cheap and 12ga is too damned heavy?

As was stated in earlier post,"supply and demand"!!!
As of Nov.5th ,demand is at an all time high,so of course the price will follow suite.
Is it price gouging??Sure!!!
The only way to get prices back to normal ,is for the panic buying to subside.
I am very thankful that I built my ammo stash when prices were reasonable.

I was in BassPro over the weekend...love that store. I bought some #4 Buck 12ga there as my Chinamart only has slugs and 00 in 12ga. at the moment ...sold out of most other stuff.
My problem is that Chinamart is near ..and BassPro is 1.5 hour a way.

I can remember buying 5.56 Winchester white box for about $4.75 at gunshows....not all that long ago.

I think they're gouging the prices because they know they will be out of business in the near future. They are trying to get early retirement before they loss to the socialists.

I would say there is a little hike but for certain calibers there is a high demand and not allows in stock. No surplus ammo = higher prices, makes sense to me.
