No more prepping at all... NONE! STOP. Right now, how long can you realistically hold out on what you have at this very moment??

Lot's of varitibles here, mostly having to do with "quality of eating". Also I would need to factor in our gardens contribution and other natural resouces that I consider non-reliable.

1) In our regular storge of can goods and then freezer beef/chicken/hamburger/fish etc., we are a solid 2 Months NOT including fresh eggs and milk. Milk/eggs we would have to tap into our powdered supplies within days. I can keep our freezers going for at least 6 Months.

2) Long term storage would depend on the head-count. If it was just my immediate family (majority of our survival group) we would be right around 2 years. A solid (1) year of excellent quality foods of 2800-3200 calorie meals with lot's of variety.

"IF" we go into a 2nd year with zero outside contributions, then a more serious consideration will be given to rationing the remaining stocks.

3) After the 2nd year the need for outside help in the form of gardening, animal harvesting, forging for food would slowly become the norm for survival. It is at this point that survival skills and the will to survive would play a major roll.

Supplies/abilties that would last much, much longer than 3 years:

-Water purification
-Salt
-Sugar
-Wheat
-Rice
-Red/Black beans
-lentils
-TP
-Soap
-Shampoo
-Tooth paste/brushes
-Basic first aid supplies
-Vitiams
-Spices
-LP gas (based on 1lb per day)
-Firewood (unlimited)
-Rechargeable batteries and the abilty to charge them
-Solar capibilties
-Communications

Not nearly as prepared as i thought. The snow storm this last week left me without power for five days and was a wake up call. I have plenty of food; and a few weeks suply of water, but nothing sustainable to cook with. i nearly ran out of 1 lb propane containers. I didnt adequatly monitor my battery levels and let them get too low which ruined one of them. BTW, the Honda 2000 generator is AWESOME. wnt through less than a gallon of gas a day and could have been less.

No power, gas or water service? About 6 months maybe longer until I run out of gas for the stove. Food for about a year, water - if I can leave the house, no problem since we have a year round stream within walking distance and a purification system for about 400 gallons worth, if we can't leave the house then only about a weeks worth right now. With enough warning that I can fill the WaterBOB then 6 months.

it would be better if you gave a specific scenario: Financial meltdown, CME, EMP, terror attack, etc.

I could go several years. I had underestimated my food storage and thought I had about 2 years worth. Until I began eating out of it almost exclusively a couple years back. I barely made a dent in it. I have plenty of water too. But what I lack is self sustainability at this house. Not enough land to raise enough food to live on. But the BOL is a farm, so I'm good there.

At this very second for the whole family, I would have about 6 or 7 weeks of water, and 9 or 10 of food. There is a bit of snow on the ground at this moment, more supposedly on the way, so I could probably get a few days worth at least out of just my immediate area. I also live about a mile from a river. And yes, I have filtration and purification devices and chemicals.

like others have said..depends on your scenario.

if i can stay at my home..then we've got stored food to last the wife and I for a year rationing a bit...but we do expect family to come calling so much less time.

we have a large 2 acre pond (well stocked), running stream, and deep well..plenty of wild game which would get hit hard from others in the area so would turn to domestic livestock (rabbits/goats).
large garden so our stored food would need to last us til next harvest season.

spare 200 gals of gas on hand and never less than 80lbs of propane for the travel trailer (which is a prep in itself).

to that end, if we have to leave and have even 30 mins for evac...then we have supplies in tubs, gas cans, 6gal water jugs, etc..all ready to toss in the truck and camper and we're gone...estimate 30 days on the run with no oppty to resupply.
ammo and guns plenty nuff for several nights of zombie fun..after that.. I imagine I'd be in other kinds of trouble anyway.

we have large n small gensets and fuel, plus multiple backup heat sources.
guess I'm saying we likely have more preps than we will survive to enjoy.

but my real expectation is that the economy will tear us apart bit by bit before we ever need an emergency prep... I could loose my house, my truck, my health...etc..and a meteor never even crash into the Atlantic..that sucks! :xeye:

Err Maybe a Month ... my food stores have taken a massive hit as my wife and myself are currently living with my family until our flat is sold ...

So my food stores are basically what i have in a wardrobe in my garage and the cupboards in my kitchen ... water isnt an issue have rain butt designed into the guttering so endless supply of water
