What are some of the myths you've heard that you have, or have seen, debunked. Old myths get propogated pretty easily so there's a good chance that someone out there is avoiding something or doing something just because of a myth that you know to be false so let's hear them.

I'll start. Myth: placing the magazine of an AR on the ground while firing will cause a double feed.

After the need to stay as low as possible forced me to place my magazine in the dirt I have since used a rock, sandbag, more dirt, stone wall, and the hood of a HMMWV with no problems.

P.S. Lets avoid an AR vs AK thread by keeping the "AK's are inaccurate and 5.56 is weak" myths to ourselves.

Dimes make a devastating shotgun load...

A 50 cal round will kill a man by passing close enough to him. This means you don't really need to hit your target.

AK never needs cleaning. EVER.

The M16 was made by Mattel.
On a funny note... when I shipped to Iraq my refurbished M16 came in a box with the Mattel logo on it. It... shall we say... doesn't inspire confidence. I would have preferred Tonka :)

A shotgun is point and shoot, you dont have to use sights.

Buckshot will not penetrate your home and exit like pistol and rifle rounds

45acp is a one shot stop, even with ball ammo.

Leaving magazines loaded will wear out your springs

Hi Points are unreliable P.O.S. in the category of bryco, raven, jennings. etc.

With a chrome lined barrel, you dont have to worry about cleaning your gun after shooting corrosive ammo.

Holy cow is that real? Is it a Vietnam Era M16A1? Or is that photoshop?
sorry OPSEC!

I read a post a few minutes ago and it made me remember this myth. AK's, Garands, m1(heck even the rest of them) carbines, M1a's, and a lot more than I care to list off don't have a forward assist so they are all better than the m16 series.

I chuckle everytime I read or hear that one.

Those with a basic knowledge of firearms will understand it.:)

Pic is of a swedish g3 forward assist
