After reading through the varied responses to questions in the Urban Survival section I started to wonder how much of the opinions expressed have something to do with the population of where people live. So, what's the population of the metro area where you live - if you live in a "city".

40,000 in my small city, and another 120,000 spread out across the surrounding county. Relatively low population density, overall.

I live in a very rural "sub-division", we have 23 families scattered over 6,000 acres. If someone comes knocking at the door (usually after blowing the horn to let ya know someones there) its because they need a hand with something or offering to help with something. The smallest homestead is 5 acres.

I live in Pensacola. As of the 2000 Census it was 56k and change. Estimates in 2003 put it at around 53k.However that is city limits. The entire metro area of Pensacola, Esacmbia and Santa Rosa counties is around 400k. I voted as to where I live exactly.

Skewed results. suburb of a major city, which everyone identifies with. Over 115,000 in the actual city, but surrounded by other burbs of equal populations, not including the major city that's as close as a mile from my door.

The city I live in is slightly over 100,000. However, the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex is spawling the population base for the DFW is just over 4 million. Fortunately, my city is on furthest north east corner of it.

Edmonton: 700,000 proper 1,000,000 metro

It's a large city size wise, especially if you take the suburbs into account.

It has more parkland per capita than any other major city in N.America which is a good thing.

Gaylord, MI - about 3,700 in the city limits. About 7,000 in the nearby area whose addresses say Gaylord (including me, I live 6 miles south of town). About 25,000 in Otsego county.

I failed. According to wikipedia (yeah yeah. I know, not the most accurate of sources), Vegas proper is at about 558,000.

Metro area is 1.8 million+

Ugh.
