I took the hot dog grate off of an old grill of mine and cut about 4 inches off of it. Fits into my backpack great, cleans up awesome, and weighs next to nothing. easier to set up too.

 

I think it's a neat idea.

Thanks for sharing. Sure, mine will be an "Improvised Version" of said Device, but then again, I never had any issues using Fire to Cook Food in the Woods.

$40 buys a lot of other Goodies.

 

Seems rather flimsy. Its a great idea, just not sure if it would be something I am after.

too heavy. It's over 1.5 pounds and it's not very compact either.

 

Looks really flimsy and $40 can buy you a whole Hibachi, charcoal, and fluid.

I would just use some grating from and old grill - cut it down to fit your pack.

 

There are some better alternatives...

The grilliput folds up smaller and is about $10 cheaper and much lighter. Oscarware grill toppers weight less than 1 oz and are $3 each. A folding backpack grill from gofastandlight or from Texsport is only $8 and weighs a lot less. Even a replacement grill for a weber kettle is only $6 and even it weighs less than 1.5 pounds.

It's amazing to me the things people will buy just because they are new.

 

I always thought this was an interesting project to try.

Roasting racks are sold at any kitchen store that are 10"13" not pocket size but still very compact. Many of them have hinged sidges that can help support them against what you are using for the uprights. They sell for about 6.00.

 

I used to bring a toaster oven grill rack in my pack. I bought this roll up grill after I thought up the same idea and learned someone already makes it. I like it, doesn't weigh all that much and packs easier. Weighs 1 lb.

They do make disposable ones for putting on your BBQ or camping running under two bucks for two and available at Walmart.

 

At the price of that pocket grill, wouldn't this be better quality & price?
