At first glance, Brown Mantidflies can be mistaken for a wasp. Brown Mantidflies have a long prothorax with mantid-like forelegs containing a single claw for capturing prey. The female differs in by having an upturned orvipositor. In some ways, the Brown Mantidfly is a natural enemy of the Wolf spider, its larvae eventually making its way into the female's eggsac during construction and feasting from within.
