Ok guys, I was sitting at home this past weekend as bored as bored could be. So I figured I would go ahead and make a fishing kit to go in my B.O.B. I looked around the house to see if I had any metal tins for this purpose when I came across a better solution. I took a small pill bottle, took off the label and got started. Here is what I fit into a very small pill bottle

1.) 30 ft of 8lb line wrapped on a piece of plastic that I cut to fit into the bottle.
2.) About 12 small sinkers. (different sizes)
3.) 10 hooks that are all small but vary in sizes.
4.) 2 swivel clips. These allow you to change the hook or jig without cutting the line.
5.) 4 small jigs. (make sure you do NOT use the plastic ones, the chemical reaction will cause them to melt) use the ones made of animal hair or cotton, etc.

Insert all the above and there you have it. the pill bottle will serve as a bobber when it comes time to fish. Just tie the line around it and add a little water to the inside if needed. I hope this helps you guys. I know its not like a big thing but heck every little bit helps I guess.

8 pound line seems kinda light, personally I would use 12 pound.

For the weights, I would use split shot weight and some teardrop weights

In this video I talk about organizing a tackle box. My smaller gear is divided into 3 boxes for perch fishing, bass fishing and catfishing.

I fish with 8lb line all the time. never had it break. if you cant catch crappie on 8 lb line somethings wrong. Heck I caught a 6lb bass on it not to long ago.
Seasoned fishermen know that the breaking point of the line isn't it's lb rating, it's the patience of the fisherman.

You can catch fish that weigh many times more than the breaking strain of your line, if you have a smooth drag and patience

Forget the mono-filament line. Go with Spectra line like Power-Pro. 12lb line is the diameter of 4lb mono-filament. But more importantly it won't get "line memory" and knot up on you when you are trying to use the line.

Right. I agree. But if you are fishing with just a line and stick, either the stick is going to break or the line. There is no flex from the rod or drag to protect the line.

I got a travel fishing kit for Christmas about 5 years ago. It goes where my BOB goes. Telescoping rod and a spinning reel. It already has a small artificial bait kit, extra line, and some sinkers with it as well. I really need to ask where they got it from. It all goes into a case that's about 6" x 10" x 2". Fits great in a backpack.

Something to think about, maybe.

That'll work. I think I've done something similar if I understand your setup.

Fishing kit for me? USGI survival net. Pen fishing pole with spectra line. Light tackle, circle hooks, split shot, jigs, lures. Extra spectra line for trot/ limb lines. Pretty basic but can catch little fish, which catch big fish- or feed you. I'd rather have a bluegill on the line than a blue cat snap the line!

I would say find a telescoping fishing rod and a small spinning reel. a variaty of hooks for pan fish and 1/0 or 2/0 hooks for larger fish. a varity of weights. also you can take a peice of cloth put a rock in it and tie it to your line. also look into trot line string it has multi uses like similar uses for paracord(but not as good) and also pack circle hooks for the trotlines or bank lines. as for string in a survival situation it depends on what fish are in your area i live along the coast so 8lb would not be th best idea but would sugest 12 or 15 lb test. maybe even some 20lb braid would be good. and the lb rating of line is not what it can handle i have cought a 5'3 blacktip shark on 30lb mono but i had 300+yards and i am very experienced in working the drag and getting the fish tired. look at the records for fish caught on 8lb test it would shock you. but those guys did chase the fish with a boat.

My kids have seen people fishing a lot when we go to state parks and such and asked to do it so we picked up a couple kid sized poles at Cabelas and took them and son caught 3 fish that first outing so now we've bought a couple for ourselves and more gear and I've incorporated it into my bob.
I'm looking at making or buying a trotline or two and putting in, researched the laws in OH where we have out license to to know when and where its legal pre-hit the fan.
