I posted a thread in the ladies section about starting a new forum area for singles, friendships, groups, and meetups. There has been interest in my post and in P.M.'s. Although there was a singles area on here, people have said that it's a bust. It was hard to find and was invite only, some said no one ever got back to them when they did want in.

There are a lot of lonely survivalists in the world who would like to meet like-minded people. There are also many like me who would like to make some platonic friends and that is hard to do off line. I hope you consider this idea, many of us are interested.

Sounds Interesting. You single? :D:

It would have to have solid Rules.

On-Line dating has generally been poor because a lot of
people just aren't serious or dishonest or don't want to
spend any money thus all the free sites.

If this was my Message Board I'd make one but I'd tell people
straight up that if they are serious they HAVE to post
an introduction video via You Tube or some other hosting site and
become VIPs here and pay for this service.

The other stuff can be done via General Discussion.

Huh. As far as the singles aspect I am indifferent but as far as the meetups and such I would be on board with the idea.

Making a real introduction is a good idea, as is paying for the service. Keeping it in the VIP section would be good, I think it would generate a lot more money for this site.

As for my status, I am as un-single as a person could get. :D: Been with my 'ol goat since I was fifteen. I just posted this because some really nice women have talked to me about how hard it is to find a person that is into the same things. It's right here in front of them, just needs to be easier for people to say "hey, I am single and looking."

Even though the old goat is still kicking I still think it's a good idea. :thumb:

I'm in agreement. Although I have to disagree with the VIP thing. While I'm not single now, I avoided online dating and Meet-up because of the cost. I just don't have it in my budget, and I bet a lot of others don't either. I'm interested in networking, just not having to pay for it. Maybe restrict it to people with at least 500 posts, or those who have been around a year or more.

A private invitation only social group might be your answer. If it is in the open forum everybody - single, married, or dating their pet chicken, can participate. In a private invitation only social group, the leader or leader and people of her/his choosing can set up the membership requirements and the social group leaders are able to toss out people who refuse to follow the social group or forum rules. The moderators are always available if you have a problem in a private social group but your restrictions and set up rules can be however you want them.

I'm suggesting a private group for another reason also. Posts on the main forum are visible to anyone, member of the forum or not, and are also google-searchable. You can attract a lot of, to put it nicely, odd characters or scary people if it is in the open forum.

Why not make it like how the Darkside is? You can only be a member and its not searchable by google?

A couple of reasons that I can think of but they are more from an administration direction than anything else. Main forum rules, dark side rules or a third set of rules on the forum for people to have to deal with? Main forum rules might be a bit stilted in a singles section although it might keep the list of desired kinks in a partner down. Dark Side rules would be too open, a lot of our members won't participate in the Dark Side except for the Book section, and you'd get a lot more ummm... detail... than many might wish. A third set of rules just for that section would be cumbersome for the members and moderation.

The second reason is if you wanted it to truly be a 'singles' section, then a social group could be exclusive, at least exclude people who prove over time they are not single, just window shopping, or people who have some serious gripes against the opposite sex. In a social group situation, if the rules are laid out clearly to start with, violators could be removed from the group by either the group leader or a moderator if needed. In a main forum situation, trolling and flaming would be a nightmare to control and we have no way of keeping ineligible people from posting. It would be a moderating disaster area.

If you think it's a problem keeping the men from posting in the Ladies Section because that is reserved just for the ladies, keeping the trolling, ineligible people just looking for a weekend hookup because their wife or husband has gone to visit her mama would really be a nightmare.

Just my random thoughts on it. I'm not even against a singles' section, I was just trying to think of how to set it up where it would be the most open and friendly to the people who participate without being on display to the rest of the forum. Nothing I am suggesting is from a position of ability to make it happen, I was just exploring the idea of a social group because I've seen several large invitation only social groups be quite successful recently.

As a long time married person who knows she's too old to start over if it would ever be necessary, I don't have a clue about dating in this century, I just know a few of the ways to make the forum more usable to more people. {shrug}

I think a group like this could open up a whole can of worms. There are dating groups for that.and they match you up with like minded people.

Don't we already have a single's group. I joined that group when I first joined. The problem with groups is accessing them. It's so much easier just to come on the forum and browse.
